Do you think, if someone adds a long description to their topic for promotion that they will get more people joining? Or doesn't it matter?

I don't really think it matters at the end of the day, if the person is interested in your forum or they like the look of it, they will join.

A member reading the promotion topic almost already knows if they're going to join the forum or not; just from the theme.

If they're interested in the theme of your forum; most times they won't read through the entire post desciption. They'll almost immediately click the link; and check it out.

Kinda like if someone advertises a Nintendo Wii based forum. I always check those out, without reading the descriptions.

Also in addition to what hfc said, alot of people just like to see what your forum offers, even if they don't like the topic, and most of the time if their your competition they'll visit you too, mostly to compare communities.

Yes I think so - we all like to see whats going on in Forums that are similar to yours ! :great: You get ideas of how to improve and see different features that other Forums have!

Depends on the name. I think descriptions help but I don't think it can hurt to have a description.
