Type of domain

If you have or was to create your own personal website about your self, your services etc.. what domain type would you use? such as .com, .co.uk, .net, .info etc..

Im thinking of getting a .info domain for my personal website.

Just go to Google and do a search for anything, it doesn't matter what. Notice how there are NO .info domains in the top. OK so I know there have to be a few so don't sue me, but it's sooo much easier to rank in the search engines with a .com domain vs a .info

Actually, domain extension has no factor in rankings. There are many searches which result in .info being first. Examples:
pr checker
train timetable (Australian search)

First page:
info (appears 3 times)
wyoming

Other:
Many large sites have bought all the extensions. This means that all those extensions point to the main domain (usually .com because its mindset) and therefore it ranks equally.

Also note that Wikipedia's .org ranks above many .com's. This also shows that the extension isn't important. Wikipedia utilizes many SEO techniques resulting in its rank as well as how trustworthy Google thinks they are.

The .com only appears to rank well is because there are so many more of them then the other extensions. This could have easily been .net or .org.

.com since it sounds better, and it is a well recognize Top Level Domain unless the name is taken. I might consider a .net, .org, .ca, .tv (if I will be hosting straming video) domain name with the same name as the taken .com domain name.
