Typing speed

I'm so pissed right now because one of my classmates just beat my typing speed for the first time in my life!

I'm not a fast typer, my speed is 79WPM at the moment.

Any suggestions how to improve the speed?
What's your typing speed? And your strategy for having that speed?

I can type very fast. The problem is, when I take a type test to where have to type off screen, I'm very slow. But if I'm typing from my mind (ie what I want to type), I can be very fast.

I average around 75 WPM. It just takes practice...from essays, emails, etc. You will get faster.

my typing speed varies varies from 70 WPM to 95+ WPM
if I am typing what i am thinking then my speed gets maxed out however for typing what i am reading it gets slow however the slowest is when my hands are cold 😛

my hands sound like flowing on the keyboard on my top speed but it makes a lot of noise as if am murdering it 😛

Mine is like 55 WPM, but if it free writing and I have ideas I can write like 90 WPM, not copying.

Not interested to be honest .. The main thing to me is correct spelling and punctuation, if it's done at great speed then so be it.

The last time I tested my typing speed was in a high school Word class or something like that. Either way, I generally typed around 100-120 wpm with about 2 or so mistakes. That was a few years ago though, so I'm not sure how fast I type now exactly.

I think that's a bad sample though because a lot of that text isn't modern English (and thus we aren't really used to typing those words).
