We're always getting boil orders where we live. This seems to be a growing problem in a lot of other places too.

Scientists tested for 32 PFAS compounds — most of the ones detectable through available methods. Thousands of others are believed to exist but can’t be spotted with current technology, Smalling said.

The types found most often were PFBS, PFHxS and PFOA. Also making frequent appearances was PFOS, one of the most common nationwide.

Positive samples contained as many as nine varieties, although most were closer to two. The median concentration was around seven parts per trillion for all 32 PFAS types, although for PFOA and PFOS it was about four parts per trillion — the limit EPA has proposed for those two compounds.

The heaviest exposures were in cities and near potential sources of the compounds, particularly in the Eastern Seaboard; Great Lakes and Great Plains urban centers; and Central and Southern California. Many of the tests, mostly in rural areas, found no PFAS.

Based on the data, researchers estimated that at least one form of PFAS could be found in about 45% of tap water samples nationwide.

The study underscores that private well users should have their water tested for PFAS and consider installing filters, said Faber of the Environmental Working Group. Filters containing activated carbon or reverse osmosis membranes can remove the compounds.

The USGS study is “further evidence that PFAS is incredibly pervasive and folks who rely on private wells are particularly vulnerable to the harms caused by these chemicals,” Faber said.

I'll tell you later today what the results of our well water testing is!!

My neighbor said that they had theirs tested last week, and they had bacteria in their water. It's probably caused by the farms all around us.

It's starting to get really bad. I'm hearing a lot of places are getting contaminated and advising people to buy bottled water instead such as Philadelphia. It's so frequent where I live that we buy up 4 cases of bottled water because we don't want to risk getting sick, even though they say it's safe. I'll shower in it, I'll wash my clothes in it, I wash and dry my dishes with the tap, but I'm not going to drink it.

Don't forget about brushing your teeth!

people talking about a conspiracy... im more inclined to believe that someone just doesn't care enough to spend the money to fix the problem, rather than believe they're intentionally killing their workforce/slaves. I feel most things like this are usually due to criminal negligence rather than criminal intent, but not always

The results of our water testing finally came in last night. We have well water and it's been years (we're so bad) since we last tested and the results are that there is no bacteria or nitrates and the only issue is that the PH was low. But then there was an asterisk saying that the PH wasn't tested in the 15 minute time limit, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it? We're going to test on our own for that on occasion to keep an eye on it, but it's potable water. The only concern would be any metals leaching (we have PVC, not metal pipes) from faucets or whatever. We have no staining, no odors or colors, so we're not concerned.

Even here in Australia I don't trust the water they provide so we have a filter that will at least filter out some of the toxicity in it.

Some places in the US have had really toxic water for years now sadly, one area specifically is Flint Michigan. I've never ran any tests on my water, but I did notice a commercial that was airing around this time last year talking about the toxic chemicals in the water in my area. It might be a good idea to invest in a water purifier if you can if you're concerned about the water in your area.
