Has anyone else here used the ride-sharing Uber?

Basically, you can request a car to pick you up someone and give you a ride somewhere else, like a taxi, except the drivers aren't really employees, but more "vendors" through the app. The app can only be used in larger cities, although it's becoming pretty common. Recently, Uber has come to my hometown. I haven't used it here yet personally, although I've used it in Seattle and it's a pretty good service!

I've never used it but I've several of the youtubers I watch use it and it seems legit enough. I personally don't know if I'd want to take it alone. I'd rather someone be with me.

I haven't used it, but only because it wasn't available in my area. When I move to Tampa, I intend to at least try it and likely use it frequently. I might even sign up to be a driver, sounds fun.

It's perfectly safe, in my opinion. There haven't been any crimes committed by uber drivers as far as I know. It's pretty much the same as taking a cab.

According to the article, uber wasn't involved in the kidnapping. The driver kidnapped her on his own time, not through the app. It would be pretty dumb for a driver to kidnap their uber passenger, because there's a digital record, unlike with a traditional taxi. 😛

Uber doesn't really operate in the areas that I frequent, but I've used it couple times during travel. It's pretty convenient, but I wouldn't really see it as a daily driver even if I could do that - probably ends up cheaper to just take the cabs in many places.

I've never taken a cab either. :r I just personally would prefer to take cabs or Uber with someone. I think I'm one of those worrysome people. There was an episode of Criminal Minds where the serial killer was a Taxi driver, no thank you.

I wouldn't trust Uber, especially on vacation. Ever use Zipcar? Get you one of those spunky little Cooper Mini's and bop around town.

We use the free valet service transport from the hotel on vacations or take the subway, and you know that the guy driving is more sober than you are when your bar hopping in the eve. 🙂

I used Uber for the first time the other day and thought it was pretty cool. I would definitely use it again. Driver was friendly, car was fine and the price was less that what you would pay in a taxi. Easy to use app and I liked not having to swipe a card or pay with cash. There were no sort of "tricks" like some taxi drivers do either.
I think the time from requesting a car to the driver arriving was around 3 minutes... though that could because at that moment there were a large amount of drivers near were I was. Eventually I'd like to try alternatives like Lyft to have something to compare to.

I haven't used it and I don't think I will. I've heard too many weird and scary stories. I'm too scared to get in a car with someone I don't know. They could kidnap me or something. XD

I personally don't like Uber. They take the busniess of the Cab Drivers who are legit companies. Take for example the Black London Cabs or the Yellow New York Taxis. Plus as they arent employees you cannot guarentee it'll be safe..

I don't know. One could argue that if people are willing to pay for someone else to do your job, then maybe there is something you should be changing in the way you are doing your job in the first place.

I know that in many places the regular cabs can now be ordered via an app, making it convenient, but I guess the rest comes down to the price. Which for a part can be explained with the legal matters (insurance and such), so it's not an easy thing to handle at all.

Haven't use Uber so far, but my friends used a lot, and it must be a great idea to reduce cost and time. IF just look at the bad side of Uber, just like we all like rainy day but the beggar! There're aspects good, some others bad. Can't say for sure people will like the thing u appreciate!
