I noticed Ubuntu a while back. I never really got around to installing it until now. I'm using it right now. I just wanted to ask a few questions about Ubuntu from any pros on FP that use it. 🙂

How can I get google chrome? I tried getting it off the official site. But I don't know what to do honestly. 🙁

^ Finally got it.

I will once I reinstall Ubuntu. I didn't restart right away when it asked after it do a update on almost all the applications. Then the GNOME manager or whatever it was called broke.. I couldn't login to my Ubuntu anymore. So once I get back from work i'll reinstall it, and let it update. Then i'll post a screenshot.

You can use the Ubuntu software manager to search for Chromium which is the opensource, and most leading edge version of the Chrome Browser, or you can go to http://Google.com/chrome to download the .Deb version of Chrome from the download options when using Ubuntu.

I believe once you double click on the .deb file it will launch the Ubuntu Software Center, and you have to type in your admin username password, and wait for Chrome to finish installing.

just use apt-get to install everything you need

Go to you terminal and be a root

then type

# apt-get install <software>

Chromium is the name of Google Chrome's open source web browser project. Chromium is the most advance version of Chrome web browser which is always being updated by open source programmers who contribute code to Chromium. Chromium has a different Icon which is blue and there is no Google branding on it.

Google Chrome is based on Chromium.

Yeah, I have Chromium, but when tested vs. Ubuntu's FF6, it's actually slower. I used Acid3 for that.

Chromium was about 2 seconds, and FF6 was about .21 seconds. Both passed.

(I always lol at that in my head since I think Chromium's faster than FF on Windows but I never tested it.)

The Acid 3 test is not a speed tester. It is to make sure your web browser is 100% web complaint and follows the standards.

Somewhere, using either the package manger or software manager, you should be able to find Chromium which is what Google Chrome is based on.

You can also use apt-get, but that's more complicated and requires going into a terminal as root, but it can be done.

Here's a page that helps explain apt-get:

I hope this helps.

Yeah, but it has a speed test feature. Although I doubt any site on the Internet really uses that many standards.

Uhmm any decent site always follows the standards to make sure it works cross browser.

Awesome Ubuntu looks cool. As long as it can play Minecraft and handle my programs it will be fine. Not like I'm gonna use it in the future or anything. 😛

ubuntu looks awesome but needs resources unlike some other derivatives.
