How do I get rid of them? They decided to visit my forum. Nvm... Deactivated them.

Enabling some form of CAPTCHA. Your forum doesn't have any. That would be a good start.

Yeah, no need to deactivate all the Bots.. Some are actually good.

That is not really an effective method now. If you use an advanced CAPTCHA and they get past that then they will get past email validation. In the old days when the CAPTCHA's were basic, it was easier for bots to break the CAPTCHA then it was to activate their account but now email validation is very easy to get past compared to getting past the modern day CAPTCHA.

I want the user to have a simple register and then login. Not have to worry about a verification. Although, the forum is somewhat big (5000+ posts & 147 in the first month) I may consider this.

If your running PHPBB3 i assume you can just choose which bots you want to view your forum. Mind you i'm using the FreeForums PHPBB3 so it might be different.

Another easy one that is simple is to have those that register spell a word backwards.

Yes, that sounds like a pretty nice idea. I will consider this if we have any further spam issues.

Well, there shouldn't be a problem. Try signing up for Re Captcha
