The MET office has issued an amber weather warning saying that the UK is in for its first hurricane since the last one ripped its way through Sussex in 1987. Forecast to tear through Southern Wales and South West England (where I live). However, they also say it could avoid land completely. 😎
I don't remember the one in 87 as I was only a few weeks old, but my mum often talks of it.
I have looked at the forecast for tonight and tomorrow, Here we are due 9 hours of heavy rain. I'm staying at mums tonight as I live down country roads which are liable to flood.
I don't think it will be as bad as the 87 storm though, I think it's just media hype, but guess we will find out tonight.
I checked the weather forecast and, although where I live is directly in the firing line and is subjected to the amber weather warnings, etc. etc. all I can see is forecasts of 50-60mph gusts (strong winds, for sure, but hardly hurricane force 😛 ). The one in 1987 reached 115mph winds, just to stress how much of a media hype I think this is. That being said, we shall wait and see. 😉
Well, that was a disappointing 'hurricane'. Didn't see a single roof ripped off a house, and saw at best a single tree the wind had knocked over.
Everywhere was open (shops, businesses, etc), I had no problems walking dogs and I saw pretty much no damage to my own house either. Guess I somehow managed to live in the part of the UK that avoided pretty much all the adverse weather today.
