I have been using an ASUS router for the past 4 years and it's beeing okay but not great. Working in IT, I should be using equipment that gives me greater control over my network and the egress/ingress traffic. I finally pulled the trigger bought into the Ubiquiti Unifi line of products. To start, I have the security gateway, POE switch and an AP. I finally have everything setup, all of my VLANS, networks and L2TP VPN setup for remote access. I also have a IPS/IDS running on the gateway to prevent and detect any intrusions.

I love how much granular control I have over my network from a management prespective and visbility to the clients on my network. I really like the idea of keeping IoT devices away from my other LAN traffic (I know how IoT devices are).

Are you currently using any Ubiquiti products or what are you using for your LAN?

I always wasn't into networking, I have done cisco networking in the past and to this day I still have the books to go with it (Books are outdated though since it's been over 6 years). I always like the hardware side but when it comes to doing the other stuff.. nope. My network is just basic and all I'm interested that it has boost and power and also what devices to go on what LAN and ports.

I use "DrayTek Vigor 130" for the modem and "Asus rt-ac5300" as my router. Any ideas and tips that I should do then glad to hear it lol I'm going to get VPN setup in my next home.

I've dabbled in the UniFi system, and it's definitely capable, but has always struggled a lot with stability as the firmware is still maturing. Sometimes it'll be solid for a year 'till you look at it funny.

I mostly use Ubiquiti's PtP and PtMP gear (airFiber and airMax). I mean to say at work, rather than home lol

Downside that I always had since my route admin is set in SSL, and it keeps on timing out and so at times I can't get into the route
