Is there any good sites i can use to monitor my hostings uptime. I am currently using Pingdom, but few of its reports seems invalid and hosting says nothing like that happened.

My host: HostRivers
Server location: US

I use monitor.us, free version gives you alerts at an interval of 30 mins.
and the paid version every one minute.

Along with this, I have also set up another server(a tiny 128 MB VPS) which does the monitoring and restarts the master server(using API) if it doesn't respond and if the restart doesn't solve the problem it switches to another server(backup server) which displays the site in read only mode using the previous day's backup.

I like to start a new uptime monitoring project, completely FREE for everybody. If anyone is interested to join me please contact.

what are going to include in this project?
is this a monitoring service or an open source project?

WordPress' JetPack does the motoring job. I also simply check the logs of Apache and MySQL to see whether they were up or not.

If you're pretty savvy, something self hosted like zabbix can monitor, send alerts and show a lot of other stats, but that also takes a server to run it on and likely something to monitor it too. It can also be a little bit of a pain to configure the way you want it, but its a good free option.

Hello, thanks for coming up with your views, it seems zabbix is a sure thing I should consider before starting something new from scratch.

OMG happy to hear that Jerry, i would be glad to join the site as a tester with my site 😀
