Maybe it could be rounded down to 20. 18 seems too young to me though. With alcohol, it's too easy to hurt yourself or others if you aren't careful. I'm fine with people younger than that drinking, but not to excess.
I don't understand why it's 21 right now. You're considered an independent adult at 18, so why can't you drink? People are going to do stupid stuff sometimes; and that's life. In all honesty, it isn't that hard for an 18 year old to get alcohol if they want it.
This might sound a little self centered, but I'm older than the legal drinking age so why should I care if it's lowered or not? I'll still be able to drink either way.
I do think that increasing the number of potential drunk drivers on the roads is a bad idea. Changing the law will create thousands more of those situations on a daily basis.
I'm a 21 year old non-drinker, but from what I've heard, raising the drinking age actually positively effected things like drunk driving, etc, etc.
I will also say that from what I understand, young people are drinking, doing drugs, and having sex less, than they have in the past. So those numbers may be affected by changes in culture over time, as opposed to having raised the drinking age to 21.
Another thing that I think it worth noting, is that you can go and risk your life in the military at 18, and can vote of course, but can't drink until you're 21. If an 18 year old is mature enough to vote and give up their life, surely they are mature enough to drink? In that sense, I'd say it should all be raised to 21, as 18 year olds are usually idiots anyway...
It should be lowered because people at that age can fight in the military. You're saying someone can die for their country, but they cannot get a beer?
It 18 in the UK and I have 4 children and they are never drunk because I let them have a wee drink at home
My children are all careful when drinking
It comes down to how a person is brought up
Personally many people are just gonna break the law anyways, so why not remove the ability for the to incriminate themselves. That being said you should still be responsible (I.e. don't drink and drive!) but other than that I'm not against it.
