Our 4 gb usb drive has 3 gb of data. Not really important data because we use that usb as a transfer medium only. When we need to print, we use that usb in the cyber shop. One time that we needed to scan, I went to the cybershop and had the scanned images saved in the usb drive. Fine. But later, I noticed that the 3 gb of data were lost. The only content of the usb is the scanned image. But the property of the drive shows 3 gb in use. Any opinion?
I love how everyone goes straight to thinking it's a virus. It's a piece of hardware, anything can happen.
Try verifying if the files are hidden by enabling hidden files in file explorer. Start with the basics. I would also use the command prompt and use the "dir/X" command (X being the drive letter assigned to the USB) and seeing the files listed there.
Just for an update, I have tried all what I know and I brought the USB to our tech department. It's definitely not a virus and the files seem to be there but not accessible anymore. The tech said that the files can be recovered if the directory will be reconstructed. The files in there are not really that important so I declined because reconstructing the directory is not that easy. At least I have a closure to that issue.
Thanks to all those who responded to this discussion. I appreciate your input.
