sounds like an good ideaI decided to disable them to non-staff because for me the ranks make it clearer what level the user is at on the forum, if that makes sense 🙂
Umm... What?give dem the earnage!
I let my staff have that permissions and VIPAlways use VC, because having changing it is a privilege, if they want it, they have to earn it by posting on the forum. Plus if you let them do it, they could always change their user title all of the time, and it could confuse people. So it'd be better to charge them for it.
I let anyone edit their user titles. I've always found how weird it is to only allow it for certain people, when it's a a core feature of a profile. For me, I don't even use the user title ladder, anyone and everyone can edit their profile to the fullest extent, it's their profile. For some forums I see it may be necessary to limit the feature, but general forums really have no reason to limit it. If they can pay for it via currency, that's a different story.
@Packie, how would a user title change confuse members? It's still under the same username, same color of the username (if applicable) - it's just text under your name. 😛

Confuse might be the wrong word, it might annoy some people if they keep changing it. Another point is if you don't let them change it then you can decide whether the user title is appropriate or not.
