Well, i've started a graphics forum, it's about 3 months old. Half a month of that was wasted on other things. Now, I have a bit of content, I want to promote, in order to do that, I must make the forum presentable. I was using smf, but it seems I can't find a good free theme for it that is good for graphics. I've already converted from mybb since mybb is short in mods and quality themes.

So. I have a re-look over phpbb and I found the perfect theme, I also found the perfect mods and skins for it. Only problem is that automod isn't efficient and theme/sql changes are a huge pain to do which is bad since phpbb is often missing features I'd like to use in my forum software. Sometimes phpbb is a bit laggy, a bit slow, when you install too many mods. And you can get a load of errors from simply installing automod. :shake:

Phpbb has never felt "clean". It almost makes me wish that I had ipb or vbulletin which has so many of those features but run much faster and efficiently, but what student who has that money?

What's your opinion of phpbb, and do you think I should still go for it?

We have been using phpBB here since day one. We haven't had any problems with the forum software itself. We have plenty of mods installed here (as you can tell) and the speed is pretty good. As far as speed goes, phpBB3 is one of the best for speed (especially compared to the bloated software's like ipb and vb).

Automod isn't good for phpBB3 but mods aren't that bad to install manually if you know what you are doing. Most mods install manually with no problems (aslong as you takes your time doing the edits).
