Using Proboards in 2022?

So say Proboards went bankrupt and there was no more... people like you would lose out? 🙁
Not always, maybe they might be able to save the database somehow. Right

Good question!

I know we can export OUR posts & move them over but cannot do members' posts. That is dumb IMO. To me, if you can move one over, you can move them all. Their excuse is we don't OWN the posts nor have the rights.

I have a test site on which I run a variety of software including WordPress, SMF (two versions), vBulletin 5, Xenforo and some other bits and pieces. While I'll admit it might not support hundreds of connections running concurrently, it would be perfectly adequate for a start up running on something like SMF and all for around $35 a year + the cost of the domain.

You really don't need much if any technical knowledge e.g. SMF installs within a few easy clicks through cPanel and the advantages over Proboards are major. You can install test boards to learn on, customize your live installion to the max (or not at all) and your forum's database belongs to you. If the forum takes off you can migrate to other software and a more powerful server if necessary. If it doesn't you've lost $35 but had the opportunity to get some basic technical knowledge.
