Using used domains is it a problem?

I bought a domain recently and i am running a forum using it. Today i did an archive result and found that the domain was used in 2009 - 2011 by some user. Is it due to that i am not getting indexed by Google? My website performs very badly in Google and other search engines 🙁

It shouldn't be affecting you now. If anything I would think previous traffic would help you now as the current owner.

It's actually good to have an old domain used by someone else earlier when it comes to SEO. However, you need to make sure that the history of the domain is clean. You might encounter problems such as ranking for your keyword, getting into the Google index, and others if the domain doesn't have a clean history.

By clean history, I mean that the domain shouldn't have been involved in activities violating search engines' rules.

It should not effect your ranking. You have to work on backlinks If your site not doing well in google. Maybe your site does not have good backlink.

If you're using a domain that someone else used in the past, I would highly recommend checking the internet to make sure the previous owners were not malicious with their website. If they were, the domain could still be on some blacklists and malware lists until you contact those lists to have them appealed. Also check the Web of Trust for your domain and see if anyone said anything about the domain prior to when you started using it.

I try to stay away from used domain for a few reasons.
1.I am not sure if the past owners were honest with there visitors/clients.
2.I am not sure that the administrators/staff was being fair and yes also honest.

You have to be careful when it comes to used domains, there may be a bad reputation with that name and thus may result in members not joining and visiting.

I always recommend thinking of a domain and if its taken try again. Once i see that the domain is available i always to a search to see if it was ever used be four.
