I was thinking of using YouTube to promote my website. Although I would like to ask you for your thoughts on this.

I'm toggling between, will it be a total waste of time making a promo video? or is there a slight chance that it could bring some visitors to the site.

Has anyone used YouTube in this way and found it to work?

Thanks in advance for your views.

I've posted a few YouTube videos myself (Not for forum promotion, but anyway...), and they've all recieved loads of viewing in less than an hour after uploading. I bet it would work quite well.

Depending on what you put in your video if it is stupid then no if its cool and people will want to watch it YES!!!

Youtube can be a great way to promote if it is done right. At least half of the members on my forum found it through Youtube. ~smile~

Several of my friends have used youtube to reach members. Some of their sites are TV show based though, and they just put in a watermark on the show upload. Not sure how well it would work, but if your good at making youtube vids then its worth a shot. Ive also heard of people advertising through comments, but then I hear alot of people say they ignore the links because they think its spam and think your site is full of spam as well.

What you do is don't make a video advertising your forum, but make videos like you normally would, and get subscribers etc
You can mention the site in your videos, profile and what not.
If it comes to a point where you feel like your channel gets enough hits from subs, make a promotion video.

I use youtube all the time to promote my forum, it works. I asked members how they found my site, about 50 came from youtube; good for one small video. ~wink~

i regularly make youtube videos for for up and coming fights. One of my videos has about 10000 views so far but alas none of them have joined my site.

I suppose it depends what type of forum you have and what your video is about. If people can learn from your forum then you will probably get alot of members.

I put it in a music video that has over 25,000 hits. I got only a few members, but my forum is small anyway.

The best way to approach this is to make a video that is only about the forum. Once done, in the descriptions, title, etc. Make the video stick out. For example, my forum is Wii Zone. In the forum, I have a special system to where members can earn free Wii Points but they really do have to earn it. The title of my video for the forum, is "Wii Zone - Earn Free Wii Points!" which really catches the eye of Wii owners. Now my forum is not all about the free Wii Points obviously but I still have managed to get quite a few very active members from this video. I know that not all forums will offer free prizes but the main point of this is the fact that if you make a video, you must make it stick out and it will work in time.

I just put mine in a music video. Then on the side I have the link. In a newer video I put it right in the video.

i use it as well, SSBB is a very popular video game, and heavily searched. but i didn't really advertise all my forum, just we have plenty of members, ready to braklk any who challenge.

here's mine, it's a rough cut, was in too much of a hurry to add music, LOL!!!

i keep the links to my forum on this, and ALL the brawl matches i upload to youtube in the video description.

Heres my effort -lol-

For SSBB, you should find a glitch and post it with your forum branded all over the video.
If I found the black hole glitch (SSBM) and ran a gaming forum I would do that.

I think it work if your ad on Youtube is entertaining, and not like a commercial or infomercial that is on TV.

That's the whole trick behind using YouTube to promote your site. You've go to make it entertaining and informative for your viewers as well as draw them in and make them want to check out your forum.

Sorry about a bump, but it wasn't really that far down.

For YouTube advertising, I'd most likely do it at the end of every one of my videos. My forums are mostly about machinimas (Movies filmed in a video game) and I also am going to be making Machinimas. it works for both Ads and to view the final product.
