Let me first state that Pinterest is about 80% female. The remaining 20% is likewise largely gay males. Trying to draw traffic to a car forum through Pinterest is going to be a tough project. It can be done, but you need to think about the largest audiences.

1. Create your Pinterest account.

2. Get as many people on board to follow the account (and subsequently re-pin/like any pins that come out of your account). This will effectively act as your seed. With every re-pin, your pin will spread to a larger and larger audience.

3. Create your content for your pin. Think creatively and logically here. You are going to want something that will motivate a random user to re-pin/like it. You can go humor, cute, cats, etc. Make sure to remember the audience (80% female). For my particular case, I created a 'Peeing in the Shower' image using some public domain clip art and text: http://i48.tinypic.com/2vai2w6.gif

4. Host your content in the bounds of a location on your forum. Again, think creatively. On Pinterest, when a user clicks an image it goes to a link, typically a blog or website featuring the recipe, how to, etc. In my case, I used a forum thread with a link to the Cafepress Mind Explosion Shop using my image for a shower curtain: http://mindexplosion.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6 . With the goal being to physically get users posting on your forum, don't shy away from a strong call to action.

5. Create your pin. Make sure to come up with a creative bit of text to include. This is all part of your 'sell' to convince users to re-pin/like your pin.

6. Sit back, relax, and watch the traffic come in. From my personal experiences, 50 unique views per pin is extremely attainable. And with any luck, your pin will go viral! It all comes down to the quality of the content with your pin (more so the image and text of the pin itself as opposed to the link on back-end).

Good luck!

This is a great guide. I wish more people would utilize the social world for traffic, but it seems they just simply don't.

Pintertest has no effect on SEO whatsoever.

The traffic you are experiencing is bot traffic, going to that pic, following the link, and then recording a bounce for Google to record.

Any link anywhere on the web has some effect on SEO. As it stands Pinterest has a reasonable impact on SEO, but is not the miracle rankings booster that some are proclaiming it to be.

And if all the traffic is bots then they're some of the best bots I've ever seen, because they've managed to register on my forum & make successive on-topic posts/replies 😛
