Today, I noticed that v7n Forums were hacked when I tried to visit the forum.

Really sad news, but this isn't the first time that they've been hacked before... Recently, someone hacked the website and forums of v7n...

Share what you want to about this webmaster community, 😉

Wow that sucks... And they said they hacked it "just for fun'? There's nothing fun about it. Hope they get things up and running soon.

You'd think a webmaster forum would be the last kind that's vulnerable to this sort of thing.

Oh my gosh, I loved v7n 🙁

A VB mod may have done that.

Well, vBulletin did have its problems with security as of late. And I'm talking about the recent 3.8 versions (they could've been on 3.8.6 or an old vBulletin version for all we know).

However, seeing how they're back up, it shouldn't really be a problem. I would think that if they get hacked, they would be able to restore backups. Even I back up my forums often (usually around 3-5 times a week, especially before major updates).

Unless I missed it, they could of restored a backup 🙂

Gosh it is good to be back! Okay, to answer your questions . . .

(1) The V7N servers were not compromised.

(2) The V7N did not exceed their bandwidth.

(3) A security breach at GoDaddy (the registrar) did allow someone to take temporary control of the V7N domain itself (not the server) early this morning.

It's over now, so let's move on!

So it was GoDaddy themselves!

That may be true, but they are the most targeted due to its nature of members and worth etc.

And their servers wern't hacked. It was their GoDaddy account 😉

EDIT: Just saw it was back up. Well let the record stand I knew it was their godaddy before they posted it.

I noticed that I got a redirect when I went over there.

godaddy is notorious for this crap lately. It's worse because you don't have any control over things there, no matter how secure you might make your own site it could still happen.
