VB VS PHPBB?

PhpBB.

vBulletin is the worst software on the internet.

I was thinking the same except the other way around. 😛

Although vBulletin is now bloated as hell I still think it's a great software.

depends on which version of vBulletin you're referring to. If you're talking about the 3.x series, it's great software albeit slightly dated.

phpBB is a pain to work with, yes it's free but the support for it isn't great, it's basically 'you get waht you pay for' and vB support isn't any better TBH. If you wanted my personal opinion, go with something like IP.Board or Xenforo.

There's softwares I don't like: vBulletin and myBB.

I much prefer phpBB.

Let's say .. do I want a bicycle or a car? That's the difference between the two. PhpBB is an OUTDATED script, that doesn't look modern and, even if it was good years ago, it got stuck there. So we compare a mature paid script which is still excellent (if we ignore the problems with the lawsuits and their company) with a script that's been the same as it was in 2004 or when the 3.x version was built. 😀

I hate both of them.

But at the end of the day, i will choose phpBB over VB. Honestly, i don't know why i should pay for a bad software (VB) where i can choose another bad software for free (phpBB). 🙂

So you're saying the both of them are not good software?

Kavin, why is VB a bad script?
I have used it for years and while I agree the support is not really excellent and the new company is hated by many, it doesn't make the software bad. Some of the biggest communities in the world successfully run VB scripts and you're saying it's a bad one 😀

And I see you're running a VB forum (if that's yours). If it's that bad, why not migrate to phpBB? I'm sure it's possible 😉

Speed > features, especially in todays market. It's good software, but it's over the top, the average person will spend probably more time trying to figure out how the admin CP works, then modding his/her forum, or actually coding. Pretty sad

It is actually hard to compare a free and paid forum software, I suppose, as both being a paid and free one each has their own plus and minus. I have been using both as a member, never touched vB as an administrator (only as far as global moderator). So far I say I enjoyed my time in both, though I do like vB more. I'm not sure of the codes and scripts problems as I don't understand such details, but from browsing experience I have more fun in vB forums I go to, with the features, the layout, and even as moderators it is easy to do the tasks.

I suppose it eventually depends on the money. vB as far as I know is the most expensive paid forum software out there so phpBB is a better choice there.

(Though I agree tweaking codes for modifications or themes at phpBB is such a pain. XD)

I like both phpbb and vBulletin. Though I have never been an administrator on VB.

Phpbb is much better then VB. If a forum is using VB, I close the page right off.
