Greets.

I'm thinking about starting a new forum. I want to know everyone's opinion, do you prefer vB4 or IPB? I have both licenses. 🙂

invisionpower.com

Also, I might be looking for someone to partner up with me. Dunno though, not gonna make this a recruitment thread.

So, what do you guys prefer?

Mind you, The Admin Zone traditionally was a vBulletin fanboy forum like how a lot of guys here like phpBB 3 (not trying to downplay phpBB at all).

To me, vBulletin has seen better days. They haven't been the same without Kier Darby and the rest of them at Jelsoft (their offices closed because most of the senior development members left). I was a license holder of both, and I personally prefer IPB 3 mainly because of its Admin CP (lack of iFrames and the live search feature) and support from its members.

Also, IP.Content > vBulletin 4's CMS.

However, I will give you a hint. Whether you want vBulletin or IPB, get the license used. You can easily get either license for between $60-$100 USD.

I actually already own both versions.
Thanks for your opinion, though. 😉

I'll have to think of another forum topic, I gave up with what I tried last time. I'm not experienced enough in the field.

I would have to say that IPB3 is better established then vB4 in my opinion, if I was going to use vBulletin I would have to use vB3.8

I sort of have the same opinion as you, Daniell. I own a forum that is running vB4 atm, and I don't really like it.

I also moderate on a forum with 1.2 million posts, also running vB4. Very difficult to navigate.

I think for my next board, I'm going to try out IPB3.

I agree about the navigation thing, trying to navigate around a vB4 forum can be frustrating because forums I have been on that run vB4 you have to click the little house button to get back to the index :S

P.S. If you ever need any assistance with learning IPB3 or need someone that knows what they are doing feel free to hit me up 😉

I will Daniell. I've still got to think of a new niche to make, I'm not sure yet.

I agree, vBulletin has seen better days, I know Steve Machol is amazing at support though like Mike on Mybb. I've been a fan of IPB since IPB 2, the ACP in IPB 3 i like more but i can't remember what IPB 2 looked like haha. vBulletin is going down and down losing their senior dev's. I Do (i think) still have a login for a license, It expires seen (vBulletin)

Im a vB user and I would say IPB3 is better than vB4 at the moment.

I use vb3.8.5 and I love it. 😀

I mean yeah. If it was 2008, we'd be talking about IPB 2.3 versus vBulletin 3.7. Back then, vBulletin was cheaper in the long run and to be honest (other than support), vBulletin 3.7 was a better product. When IPB 3.0 came out, it added more features while making it more efficient. I mean the ACP changed, and it took me some uncomfortable days, but with something as useful as the live search, I learned faster.

IPB 3.1 is going to be really good, though. It's adding Twitter Connect and improving its current Facebook Connect feature. It's also going to add some extra SEO stuff, which will not require any sort of IPB SEO software (don't get me wrong, vBSEO has been proven to work wonders).

Now i was a fan of Vbulletin before it went to V4 then i seen IPB3. But i would pick IPB3 any day. The admin cp is not as packaged as is the vbulletin is.

Out of all honestly, I have never used vBulletin, nor have epierenced it, were as IPB3 I have and it seems pretty more customizable and easier to use, nor only towards ModCP, ACP, but it is user friendly.

I love Invision Power Board and always will, Matt has easily been contactable for an interview where vB wasn't. I liked how IPB actively kept the community up to date with development progress, whereas Jelsoft kept stumped about vB4. I like how IP.Converge is a fantastic piece of kit and IP.Content works seamlessly. I do feel for vB users, it was a fantastic solution, but for me, it has gone down hill.

Yea, i've been getting emails about their upgrades and new stuff every few weeks, also bugs are handled very fast i posted one a long time ago and got answered to very soon

I prefer IPB3, but I use vB4.

This is because vB has far more mods, styles, fansites etc. etc. and as more forums use it, users will instantly be more comfortable with it.

IPB3 forever. Their support is unmatched in quality. If ANYTHING breaks, they get it fixed in just hours.

I like the new IPB version a lot myself.

I loved vB3 but the new version is terrible w/ new bugs showing up every week and patches being released all the time. IPB is better than vB at this point.
