That's cool I haven't heard much about VB for ages. I don't even see any forums really using it anymore so hopefully that picks up with the new updates.

Nice to see other Forum Software still being worked on. I hope that it is full of new fresh features 🙂.

Oh wow, can't believe it's still going. I really did want a VB forum back in the day, its retro look is still kind of cool.

what will bring to the table then

Seems like an underwhelming major release, but I'll reserve my criticism till I get to try it out!

They’re still not where they need to be to get back in the mix with XenForo and IPB, but this is a step in the right direction. Not bad.

I read the announcement, looked at the screenshots posted and was also completely underwhelmed. I did notice something odd at the bottom* of a few posts but didn't think anything of it. To cut to the chase it eventually dawned on me that I was looking at vBulletin 6 which resembled vBulletin 5 (except for the odd bit at the bottom). I had the theme set to vBulletin 5 rather than 'default' which was now vBulletin 6.

That's a slightly long winded explanation to explain that even though the official site had been upgraded from vB5 to vB6, I couldn't tell the difference. The reason being there is virtually no difference. There is a new theme, it's really poor and there are a few minor function upgrades but to label it as a major point upgrade is nothing more than a desperate attempt to gain sales on a product that died years ago.

*The odd bit at the bottom is a minor replacement, 'likes' for 'reactions' which brings vBulletin inline with the majority of other forum software.

It does seem like the review was pretty good for 6.0, but I see no reason to get started with a vB forum in 2023. Granted, for cloud forums, it is one of the cheapest, so it may be one of the easiest ways to get a forum online for someone with zero server experience... then again.. that Admin Panel looks rough for a brand-new admin.

Did anyone start using VBulletin 6.0? I'm curious how the upgrade went and how it's working out now, especially with some of the old addons?

Upgrading from vBulletin 5 to 6 is pretty straight forward. It's a minor upgrade plus there are virtually no add-ons available. There is a new theme but old themes should still work because the original vBulletin 5 theme is still available and can be set as the parent.
