vBulletin or IPB ?

IPB has more of a "web 2.0" and community feel in my opinion, Might infact be ordering it soon but anyway Vbulletin is better for a webmaster site or a more professional site, I also find IPB a bit faster than VB, plus with VB you can get community hosting from them without a big investment in the license.

IPB also offers hosting... Starts at 10$ a month. Full license included.

IPB has more features, and an updated system, you're correct.

However, with those features comes one very huge problem: No proper documentation. So, you're stuck in "WTF am I doing here" mode unless you're completely familliar with IPB

vBulletin has it's own issues as well, especially with staff. The staff just don't care about their clients any more, and it's certainly NOT the same shop. Their product up until now has been good, but since 3.8, it's gotten some pretty bad reviews, due to massive bugs, problems, etc. We'll have to wait and see what 4 looks like.

Which is better? Honestly, I can't say either is better than the other. Both are rather bad support wise, vB is rather old and dated, and IPB is rather confusing.

What IPB do you deal with? Since they changed their overall scheme and went to a different look their service has been below subpar and stinks. Hard to get a response out of them anymore. I just purchased a board from them and have been waiting 2 days with no board or response out them. Like most, they get your money and they are in no hurry to help after that.

I've used a free but fairly restricted version of IPB (http://ipbfree.com/home/) and I found it annoying and complicated. I seriously could not figure out how to install a new skin, despite their tutorials which really just avoided the point.

Plus, vBulletin looks a lot nicer.

And vB looks nicer, where have you been hiding the last couple of years?

VB does look nicer but for the price it ain't worth it. As for service, most of these hosting places just want the cash then take their own sweet time about fulfilling their promises.

I once had a vBulletin and it wasn't a good experience on my part. If it is vBulletin or anything that resembles it, count me out. I haven't tried IPB yet and I probably won't for a while, depending on my current host, so I cannot provide an unbiased opinion for both services.

VB does look nicer but for the price it ain't worth it. As for service, most of these hosting places just want the cash then take their own sweet time about fulfilling their promises.

That was sarcasm, IPB has the edge over vB's graphics any day, it leaves vB in the dark.

However vB4 will be released soon which will be a lot better than the current version but an official leaked document suggests it will be more expensive and have totally different payment systems and you'll have to pay extra for support. Will vB4 be better than IPB3? Nobody can say for sure as it's not released so don't listen to anyone who's said it is. Also while vB3 has more mods and skins than IPB3 as it's still fairly new this will all change when vB4 is released the the opposite will happen. Just a warning that even though vB3 has more mods a lot of them have security issues. Personally I'd go for IPB3 espically if your pretty good with coding as their are a lot more possibilities.

Very well said, I bet they will increase the price again. I still hate what they have done with the vB design for version 4, just bloated everything up a bit! :lol:

I like the newer version of IPB. Looks more customize and has lots of modifications you can use.

vBulletin seems too basic...

IPB 3 is great, but I still prefer vBulletin. And once vB 4 is released, IPB will be left in the dust. 🙂

Quite honestly, I don't like IPB 3. At all. It's too much of a change for my liking. Sure some things look a bit smoother skinning-wise, but still, its just laid out awkwardly IMO.

Im used to typical, more simple forum styles, which is why I'm sticking with IPB 2.3.6 for my site.

I love IPB3. 🙂 Very very easy to use if you have used all the versions in the past. Very efficient for any kind of forum.
