Okay, So recently my license expired and it got me to think. Is vBulletin or even IP Board worth it? I mean yes they have their advantages and some respect from people who really don't know how to run a forum. However a new statement from the Community Manager @ vBulletin said vBulletin will now cost $200 dollars for life, I already paid $180 why $200? Anywho basically I'm just trying to say for all of you who want to use vBulletin or IP Board you don't have to.

That is the great thing about phpbb,smf And more is they allow customization! What ever you think you can do chances are you probably can! So before buying these software give phpbb or even smf a chance before hand because chances are you will enjoy the stuff life gives for free 🙂

Sincerely,
Raymond

If anyone is looking for forum software, phpBB is by far the best and is easy to learn as well.

If you want to go with a different forum software, by all means go with phpBB. It offers the best features, the best mods, the best templates, and it's user friendly. Most forums I've been to are using it.

IP.Board > vBulletin
IP.Board > phpBB
IP.Board > everything. 😛

I've used phpBB in the past. (Since version 2 to be honest.) About a year or so ago, I was finally able to purchase an IP.Board license and could never go back to phpBB. IPB is definitely worth it.

phpBB is not the best at all. It's the best free forum software in my view, but not the best out of all forum software, paid and free, combined.

As TDM said, look at my forum, and his forum, we both use IPB software. It is a 150.00 dollar license but it's worth it in every aspect. The support is great, the skins you can get is vast, and the possibilities are endless and keep going and going.

VB is the worst software. I recommend phpBB3. You can then use your money for people to make a MOD for you, theme etc. 🙂

How exactly is vB the worst software?

Phpbb = free

Ipb, vB = paid

Paid = superior to free

What am I missing here?

I've tried Vbulletin through a demo and I couldn't work out a thing with it. I almost screamed at it. 😛

That doesn't mean it's the worst software just because you're incapable of using it 🙂

Try the help guides.

Eh. I wouldn't waste my money. I would rather have phpBB3 with a Vbulletin based theme. Works out cheaper. 🙂

That isn't always true but generally you are correct. Some paid hosts are worse than free hosts or even hosts that are cheaper than them to use an analogy in a similar industry. Still, it takes A LOT of searching to find non-low-quallity free hosting/software.

The thing is it isn't a waste of money.

The word waste is thrown around too much nowadays. It comes down to you get what you pay for, if you pay for vB or IPB, you get exceptional software.

You can't expect to learn IPB or vB in a matter of minutes. It took me about a week to get settled into the IPB ACP and mod tools.

I have also heard from staff here that VB can be pretty hairy to get to grips with!
