Hello guys.
I am thinking of buying vBulletin for my chat forum, it's $195 which is £122.

But.. if I buy it do I get access to vBulletin 3.8.x?
I hate the new 4.x.x versions.

If you buy it now I don't believe you will. If you want that you may as well buy a second hand license, you're also better off buying second hand anyway since plenty of people sell them cheap.

I'd personally recommend staying away from it completely as a general forum has no need for it.

Vbulletin is going out of the picture. Most sites use IPB or the free forums now days. Or even xenforo.

If you don't like the latest release of a software then I personally wouldn't pay for a license to use an old version of the software. I personally would look for a software that I feel meets my needs now and a software that I think is heading in the right direction. I am guessing from your post that you are not liking where the Vbulletin developers are taking the software.

If you don't want to use Version 4 of VB, you should try to buy a VB3 licence from someone who has one but doesn't use it. These licences are regularly offered for sale and they sell for a lot less than $195.

vBulletin 4 the layout is just horrible themes are horrible as well.
vBullletin 3 has a better layout themes, modifications etc.

Yes, with a vB4 license, you will also have access to download the vB3 software.

I might try and find a coupon to buy vBulletin $195 = £123 I will see if I can get it any lower with a coupon.

You could try buying a used license. I see vB4 licenses often going for $60 - $120. Check AdminExtra, TAZ, DP, and AdminAddict. Just be careful though - if a vB4 license has already been transferred, it may not be transferred again.

I can't buy it from other people except from the vbulletin purchase.
Because I haven't got PP on a CC.

Also, UK VAT is £20 so it's £147 not £123 🙁
