Vicious Cycle

Ok so I have a forum and need more members. However there is a problem because when people go to the forum and see it's inactive they don't join (at lest that's my theory). So can anyone here say from experience that the hardest part is starting out? If so, then how do you get out of the cycle?

Get some simple post exchanges going and post yourself. Also, that chatbox was a real turn off for me, so that could be the same for many other members.

I agree. Post exchanges are key. No one will join an empty forum.

Sorry to say the looks of the forum is disgusting, the recent topics and shoutbox/chatbox is the worst. Try disabling the recent topics and set a new tab for the chatbox/shoutbox. Then as said above, do post exchanges et cetera.

I can see the recent topics thing being in the wwe way but not the shoutbox...

Also your banner scares me away, you have the themes name in the banner, Code Black but above that you have a hash sign which carries out nowhere in computing. I reccomend a new banner and a new default theme for guest's as it pretty much scares them away.

I have a few themes on my forum and different people like different ones, I recently changed it to the one I am using now because someone I know who claims to design sites said that one was good...

I used to have this one as default:

I also understand what they say about the default theme for guests not being very inviting. i would strongly suggest choosing a different default theme and letting people choose the theme you are using now if they want.

Speaking about the leaf... that was the first thing that gave me a negative impression... It may be my own personal bias as I hate pot heads and everything that leaf stands for.

Aside from that, the intensely dark theme with light text is painful to the eyes.

If you want a forum where lots of people sign up, you need good content (I recommend enlisting friends to seed the forum in addition to post exchanges) and that content must be presented in a way that is not death for the eye.

There is nothing wrong with pot. Alcohol and Tobacco are worse.

Like I said I have people who say I should be using a dark theme so I think that's just a matter of opinion. You can change the theme if you sign up...
