That's an interesting site, I've never heard of UBB before.
I do have to say though, avatars take up half the area of posts... they should be resized.
UBB is the reason we have vBulletin, which is the reason we have XenForo. It's essentially XFs granddad. It started in 1995 as The Ultimate Bulletin Board, then UltimateBB, before shortening even more to UBB. It was originally written in PERL with flat file storage, but eventually they acquired another classic product, WWWThreads. The PERL version became known as UBB.Classic while the PHP version, WWWThreads, became known as UBB.Threads. Prior to the acquisition of Threads, many had called for a PHP version of UBB, but the powers in charge of UBB did not seem interested in it.
One of the community developers, John Percival, took the time to write a PHP version, looking nearly identical to the PERL version, but with a database backend and much faster. Percival presented the PHP version to Infopop, the company behind UBB, but they turned him down outright. Percival and business partner James E Limm decided to start a new product, vBulletin, which would be owned and operated by Jelsoft. This vBulletin, a php alternative to UBB, took off and became the dominant product in the market. So there we have it, UBB, the grandfather of XF. Still a thing, but nowhere near as popular as it one was.
