There are over 1,416,338,245 TVs in the world but less than 1% of them are used to play games! Crazy.

We think that's because traditional games consoles and content are too expensive. So 12 months ago, we set out to challenge that by making the most affordable, open and portable TV games console ever created. At $79 GameStick offers the most affordable route to playing games on your TV.

It is amazing that people can use Google Android which is a phone and tablet operating system, and make it work well with a TV, and controller for playing games. $79 is a fair price since it also comes with a controller, and it is so portable.

The controller and console looks pretty good.

I wonder would Android based consoles like Ouya, Gamestick, Archos Gamepad and other companies who make Google Android gaming devices would have more people playing games on them then consoles like the Wii U, Xbox 360, and PS3 because the cost of a new console is only $79-99 dollars which is very affordable for consoles, and electronics in general.

I wonder the same thing. The problem, though, is that Ouya, Gamestick, etc. are not household names like the popular consoles. They would need some serious advertising boosts in order to have more people play them. As of now, most people have no idea Android consoles like this even exist.

Time will tell if they grow in popularity. Anything's possible.

Social media/networking advertising could help out a lot, and Search engine optimization/SEO can make more people know about Android consoles when searching for "Google Android devices" and similar terms.

I bet many years a go few average people knew what a "Google Android" Smartphone was since back then people only knew about iPhone and Blackberry as smartphones.

However, Google use YouTube ads, their search engine to rank Google Android fan pages higher and promote their own Android pages, so now Android is a household name, and as well known as Apple.

I think with the internet, a good idea can become well known since people blog about your stuff making it show up on Facebook, Google Search, Google Plus, Twitter, etc feeds.

KONY 2012, PSY-Gangnum Style, Justin Bieber, and Soulja Boy got popular by posting their videos online for people to view for free.

But, I'm not sure there are as many people searching for alternative game consoles as music, and political topics.

I think this is a very good idea and I hope it succeeds.
Technology and innovations like this will allow everyone to finally enjoy some game time.

$79 for the package is fine, and it should get cheaper over time and when it goes into full mass production.

we're seeing more and more of this as our technology advances into a new era. i think i remember reading a rumour about the PS3 and Xbox or the PC (dont know which way) merging to create a powerful system. this is definitely the future of gaming, being able to play a short game of angry birds after a full 3 hours of COD online all from the same platform.

i dont think we will have games catered to one specific console soon like we do with metal gear solid and gears of war. some of the PC games should be out on PS3 and 360 like Shogun II. Just my theory on technological advancments

I think you are talking about Steambox which is a small PC which can also use a controller like a console if you prefer controllers over keyboard and mouse.

I also feel one day we only need one affordable powerful computer would be needed for gaming needs instead of thousands of dollars on multiple consoles, hand helds, and a gaming computer.

It could mean game developers get more people buying their games because people won't have to spend thousands of dollars in game consoles and computers to play a few exclusive games like Halo, Zelda, and Spyro the Dragon, so they have more money to buy games and DLC for it.

The exclusive games may still exist for people who are willing to pay more for games and hardware like how people buy Apple computers to use Apple Exclusive software like iMovie, iPhoto, and iMessage which can be ported to Windows, and Linux, but Apple is unlikely to port their iSoftware to Windows and Linux.

we certainly wont see one big new console or computer for all our needs in the future because these cooperations will have to share the profit, therefore they lose profit. but im pretty sure we will see some sort of merge going on because like you said people dont wanna spend hundreds of dollars on hardware, gear and technology just to play a new game.

I think more companies may use Apps stores, Digital Rights Managements/DRM, or subscription services like Amazon to control their content like games, ebooks, and music like how Amazon App store forces everyone who buys ebooks from them to register for an Amazon account, and use the account to log-in from a web browser, Kindle App for Android, iOS, Windows, Blackberry, and Amazon Kindle Fire to read an ePub electronic book, or stream or re-download music which you bought from them after you logged into Amazon.

DVD movies can be another example, you don't need a seperate player for each DVD movie released by a different movie studio like Warner Brothers, and Disney, but the DVD is copy-protected with DRM to prevent illegal copying of the movie.

Call of Duty would probably not be as played if it was Xbox only like Halo 4 instead of being available for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and other platforms.

I think exclusive will still exist, but companies which are not owned by Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo would be more likely to sell their games on more then one console, PC, etc to have more chances to sell to gamers on another console.
