What are your views on sites like Formspring, and Ask.FM or Apps like Fire Chat, Yik Yak, Whisper, and Secret which let people anonymously chat, question, or spread gossip around the web or from within the App?

I think anonymous apps have a lot more trolls than regular sites and apps which don't allow guest or members to post anonymously without a screen name. Plus, a lot of the anonymous replies and topics seem to talk about stuff like politics, and make rude comments.

Haters come out in ask.fm. Well, since they can 'ask' anonymously, most of the time the anons will be bashing at the user, with like what you said, rude comments. I really think it's cowardly not to be able to tell a person what they really think. Instead, they go to a site where they could go anon and do all the hating. I know because some of my friends use the site.

I think these sites are avenues for people to hide and be rude.

Cheers! 🙂

Eh, I'm fine with it. I like the anonymity thing online, and think that the more outlets for it exist, the better.

Too many people nowadays seem to want to turn the internet into some boring alternate version of 'reality'. Screw that.

I think it is nice to still have usernames and profile pictures instead of having labels like guest, anonymous poster, or no username with no profile picture since having a username and profile pictures gives online users an identity and personality which others can relate to rather than a bunch a guests who post online.

I guest these anonymous sites/apps can be good for sharing suggestions about making something better or reporting people who are causing trouble at school, work, or your local community without risking that the trouble maker will seek revenge for reporting him.

Moderating an Anonymous site, and app probably be harder because a lot of spammers may spam these sites, and apps because Anon sites and apps are usually very easy to join. Sometimes a username, password, or e-mail is not required to join these sites.

Yeah. If owned one of those sites, I'd require an email/password. It would still be anonymous, but you'd have to login.

I think most big blogs like the Huffington Post which used to allow anonymous comments has now moved toward social networking commenting where people need to at least need to login with a Twitter or Facebook account where people still can be anonymous by not listing their real name, and info, but their Twitter name can be banned for breaking the rules like spamming links in the article comment sections which is for discussing the article.
