Facebook Rumor of Opera possibly being bought by Facebook http://thenextweb.com/insider/2012/05/2 ... t-we-know/

Do you think it is nothing, but a rumour that Facebook wants to buy Opera web browser, or it is real, and your thoughts?

I think it might be real since Facebook has the cash to buy Opera since they bought Instagram for a billion dollars, and having Opera might improve their stock prices which are going down since they became public.

I just find it weird that Facebook wants to enter the web browser market since FB is a social network, and a web browser is not related to sharing like Instagram for sharing pictures with colored filters/effects.

Facebook already is a partner with Rockmelt: http://www.rockmelt.com/ according to http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Search-Engines ... me-331151/

I wonder would Rockmelt switch to the Opera Web Browser as its browser instead of using Chromium which is based on Webkit which Google Chrome and Safari uses if the Opera and Facebook deal is true.

Sure did no webmaster is perfect. I think there trying to make FB more browser compatible.

I think it's true. It doesn't matter FB is a social network or not. You have to remember those people only care about money. I do think it's true because of "Update: Facebook also declined to comment."

They know it's true and don't want anything else out on what's going on. 😀

I hope they don't.. Opera is an awesome web browser and they would just kill it... Why not buy something like flock ...

Flock got bought by Zynga the maker of Farmville and all those other Ville games like CityVille, FishVille, etc.

Zynga closed down Flock, and are now using Flock staff for other projects.

I hope Facebook will respect Opera's users privacy and rights if Facebook buys it.

Comparing Facebook to Zynga in that sense makes no sense. Facebook sells personal info to private companies, Zynga makes junk games rigged with ads.

I hope that doesn't happen! I love opera, it's my favorite.. if facebook takes Opera, they might change it for the worse! D=

I wasn't comparing Facebook to Zynga. I was just replying to NBK that the Flock Web Browser got bought by Zynga, so it was not for Sale anymore.

Plus, Zynga discontinued Flock as of April 2011, but the Flock staff work still at Zynga. according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flock_(web_browser)

I hate Opera lol. I think it's quite slow. AHahaha Eternal, I agree Fb is trying to take over the world lol. But, they can never take over with Apple in the way.

If FB took over it they would integrate it with FB and suddenly your privacy would be non-existent.

My forum is also fast on Opera, but Opera is kind of slow when it comes to Adobe Flash Video and Games on YouTube, and Flash games sites.

I hope Facebook will leave Opera Mobile and Mini user interface alone if Facebook buys Opera since Opera's mobile browsers are pretty good, and having a Facebook share/like button on the navigation bar will be kind of distracting since I like the minimal design of the nav bar with just back, forward, stop/reload on it.

I started a thread about this over at our own forums but it seems no one shares my love of opera as no one has yet to respond🙁
