I like Valve's Steambox because it runs on Linux rather than Windows 8, or custom proprietary operating system, so at least there is no tiled desktop, or forces buyers to buy a Windows License like other Gaming computers or consoles like the Xbox One which uses a modified version of Windows 8.
It is harder to build a computer which fully works with Linux since the Linux drivers for Video cards, sound cards, and network card don't always work in my experience, so Steam designing a Linux Gaming PC which can also be used like a console is great since the video card, sound card, and other parts would work on Linux.

Plus, according to this video I found on YouTube, I can install Windows 8 if Linux is not for me.
If the Steambox cost the same, or less than a Windows Gaming PC because Linux is free, so I would not need to buy a 200+ US dollars license for Windows 8 Pro 64bit, I would consider buying a Steambox.
