Views on Web browser bars & add-ons which collect your data?

I don't like it when programs and websites collect my web browsing habits since it uses a small-large amount of bandwidth and it feels like an invasion of privacy eventhough it can be for good purposes.

I found these comments on the MyWOT (which is a web browser add-on which promises security by collecting your info and ratings) youtube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/MyWOT .

WOT collects information only for computing website ratings, performing statistical analysis and preventing abuse of our service. Any information that is no longer needed for these purposes is deleted. When loading reputations for the websites you visit, the software sends our service only the encrypted hostname and any ratings you may choose to give. The information about domains visited is stored only temporarily for computing ratings. Your IP address is never stored in our database.

How do I know if WOT itself is safe? It says it needs access to my browsing history and all my data on the websites I visited. Why

I uninstalled all my myWOT add-ons and now rely on common sense, antivirus, antimalware, firewall, sandboxie, and other security measures to protect my computer. I just feel uneasy about computer programs which collect my info.

myWot is an good program for internet security if you don't mind sending some of your "browsing habits" to them.

Nope, I don't like them. The most I have installed on mine is Firebug. Only extension thing on it

I just use Firebug, and Noscript. The other add-ons I don't bother installing since I'm concerned about privacy if they collect my browsing and computer usage habit and how much computer resources they uses and will it slow down my PC.

OMG OMG THEY KNOW MY WEB SEARCH HABITIS WITHOUT GIVING OUT MY INFO OH NOES!!!

Really give me a freaking break.. your isp does this all the time.

But, ISP are usually more trustworthy since they lose a lot of their customers if people found out they sell people's info (unless the police, government, high level organization like the RIAA, and MPAA ask for your web records cuz you are accused of being an online criminal) compared to a random add-on makers which can "secretly" sell your search habits and web browsing habits to a "online marketing company" to help them in their marketing campaigns.

Just because the "Privacy statement" say they won't it does not mean they actually won't since an Employee or someone else can steal the info to sell like how some government lost disks which contains information about soldiers and war veterans personal Info.
