Views on Yahoo buying Tumblr for 1 billion dollars?

I'm not sure Tumblr is worth 1 billion since Tumblr's users mainly post Animated Gif, memes, Erotica, and copied content from bigger blogs. I think there are also many spammers on Tumblr who post links to their spammy sites. I also read that Tumblr has very little revenue compared to how big their site is.

Anyways, Yahoo may mess up Tumblr like Geocities which is now closed.

No but seriously, Yahoo has really been trying to gain some internet ground. They do have a good email service and a news portal, but they don't have that staple yet. They're trying hard to be an alternative Google I feel.

This could either save Yahoo or cause an enormous damage to Yahoo. At the moment Yahoo needs something new to make them seem as something other than an antiquated email provider and inferior search engine.

If Yahoo is carful and do not messing with Tumblr too much, Tumblr could end up creating lot of revenue for yahoo. However, Yahoo has a history destroying their acquisitions, such as Flickr.

As an avid Tumblr user, this makes me sad. I'd have preferred it if the Tumblr creator kept the website and didn't sell it to a corporation.

I read articles about how Yahoo bought Tumblr only to get more users in the age group that primarily makes up Tumblr, as well as to shut down the porn blogs. It sounds like it may just be propaganda, but if there is any truth to it then that's unfortunate.

I read on http://allthingsd.com/20130520/wordpres ... on-sunday/ that the CEO of WordPress claimed that in 1 hour over 72 000 blog posts from Tumblr were imported to WordPress.com once Yahoo bought Tumblr.

Once more people find out that Tumblr is now Yahoo, I think a lot of Tumblr user will move their blogs away from tumblr, and set their blog to private, delete all their posts, or delete their account.

I think Yahoo buying Tumblr may make younger Tumblr users just go to Wordpress.com, self-hosted blogs, and other blog sites since many younger people might not want to blog on the same blog website which their parents are on since Yahoo has many older users like grand parents, parents, teachers, etc.

I don't see why people are freaking out so much and moving to other blogging sites, especially so soon. From tumblr's perspective, they didn't have much choice. I've heard reports that they were running out of money and wouldn't have the funds to maintain the site much longer. It was either sell or close, I'm sure users would be much more upset if it closed though some may not admit to it now.

Secondly, Yahoo isn't going to go in and make changes left and right. They're paying 1.1 billion dollars, more money than any of us could ever dream of having. With that kind of pricetag, don't you think they're going to take care of it and do their best with it? You may not agree with it completely, but give it a shot. There's no reason to overreact at this point.

Tumblr this year is on track to make over 100 million in revenue. I think this was a fair evaluation. They valued it so high thinking they could perhaps double or triple the revenue in a year or two and get most of their investment back within 3-5 years.
