VIP Memberships?

Is offering VIP Memberships, or special privileges to members that donate to your forum a good idea? Like private forum and such.

Any suggestions on some good features? lol

Currently what I have....

- No Ads (all banner ads are removed while logged in)
- VIP Forum Rank (you will have a "VIP Member" rank)
- VIP Username color (you will have a special username color, Green Color)
- Private Custom Smileys (upload your own smileys that only you can use)
- Unlimited Username Changes (Just PM Eternal and have you're username changed at anytime!)
- No waiting (No more waiting for a moderator to approve your forum promotion threads)
- 24 Hour Bumping (Able to bump you're promotion threads every 24 hours instead of every 5 days)
- VIP Promotion (Get your forum, or website, or blog in a redirect link, that is located under the Forum 'General' category. Link redirects are tracked, so you can tell how many clicks your getting to your site!)
- Private VIP Section (Section that only VIP Members can see)

I'd say for the size forum you have, no.

That's the point...people buying VIP Memberships would help buy forum upgrades and stuff >.>

But as you only have a few members, I wouldn't expect many of them to pay for such features when the forum is so small. If you build up the forum to the point where people would be on it long enough in a day to get tired of ads, or where they would need to utilize 24 hour bumping, you will get people buying VIP.

Very true, now that you cleared it up a bit more, you do make some good points! I didn't expect to sell very many memberships or if at all until at least a couple hundred members! Thanks for giving me some pointers! 😉

As someone previously said, a large forum for this would be necessary. You have a good list there, but you will need a Much larger forum before you make money off of this.

When I ran a big board I had a "advanced membership" and along with the features you stated I gave them usage to a faster server(it was a large forum and I had a dedicated server for dealing just with these members) and faster download speeds (normal users were restricted to 100 Kbps ) and no waiting between posts (normal users had a 1 minute wait)

But yeah we had over a quarter of a million users so I don't think it would be a effective thing on a small forum ( I know I won't have that feature on my current forum when it opens)

What you could do is offer a Sponsor/Donator Perk i.e. Perminat Sticky or allow them to promote intheir own sub forrm and if they do not renew then move their promo thread back to the basic forum.

If I'm going to pay you, I want something in return, not ad space, not Web Cash but something that makes me special and allows me to get my site seen. I made the same suggestion here. The next level of perks is what Promo sites need, a promo forum for these type members has never been done, who will be the first 🙂 Very easy to mange, same posting rules is just a sperate section for them.

I have something similar to what you are talking about. VIP Members get to put there forum in a redirect link, just under the main section of the forum. Checkout my forum and you can see the "VIP Promotion Section", its just a redirect link, but its something, only VIP Members are allowed to use. Its just like the Forum Redirect Link, that is under the main section here.

I'd say forums that should have VIP Memberships are the ones that offer a lot of benefits. I've only donated/got VIP from only one forum because it offered a lot plus it is fun posting on the forums. 🙂

I am offering a lot so far, and planning to add more perks very soon. Such as allowing VIP Members to lock there own topics.

Like others have said, it's really only worth it if you make the benefits and rewards premium members receive worth it... Otherwise you will hardly get any upgrades unless of course you have created a community in which people determine who is "cool" and who isn't by their rank on the forum... When that happens, you can get a lot of upgrades because people think they're better then everyone else when they have upgraded... This however, doesn't happen that often.

Traffic is important as well, FP has lots, so my idea above will work very well here.

That might be pretty tough in that the staff may be one in the same or are you suggestion like a few free graphics services?

Something like free wallpapers, icons, or similar along those lines. It just depends on the genre of the forum as well.
