Got a vps from ovh today and was wondering the best way to hook it up to my site.

I also kind of need help with the software, I tried to install this: http://www.zpanelcp.com/

But It always stopped at this:

But if anyone else can recommend me a good software that is not cpanel (will use this as a last option), that is preferably free (but I do have money), and can easily be installed through putty or some other kind of software that would be good.

after that I just need to know what would be the easiest method of switching from my current host onto the vps.

Thank you.

My recommendation would be directadmin. It is a stable web hosting control panel. Internal licenses are usually pretty affordable- cheaper than cPanel (we charge $6/mo). You'd have to see if OVH offers it, they certainly do for dedicated clients (https://www.ovh.ie/dedicated_servers/direct_admin.xml).

Webmin is completely free. It has a long history- first release was in 1997. It isn't as intuitive as directadmin and other control panels but with a bit of searching, you should be able to get your head around it.

I would pick a project with a long history, like those above, as they are well-documented and will probably be around for many years to come. New control panels are always being developed but they don't tend to last all that long.

As for switching over to your vps:
- You'll need to setup private nameservers to point to your VPSes IP.
- Take a database and file backup and transfer it over.

Edit: Also the zPanelCP dev team also split off to create Sentora.org (a fork of zPanel).

That would information provided by your host. The link Sam posted will work with either.
