In the city of New Orleans in Louisiana, this amusement park was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. No one has repaired it and it looks like a haunted carnival out of a horror movie.

This insane asylum in Massachusetts has fallen into a state of disrepair since its abandonment. With its rumors of inmate torture and the death of several workers conducting renovations at the site, it is easy to see why people believe it is haunted.

With people fighting over whether to restore or demolish this site in Berlin, all plans have been delayed. It has continued to decay making it creepier over the years.

  • Chatillon Car Graveyard, Belgium
This site consists of a multitude of abandoned cars completely overgrown by plants. The cause of this permanent traffic jam remains a mystery.

This island in Japan was built for underwater coal miners. When Japan switched from coal to petroleum, the city was left abandoned.

In the 1920s, construction started on a subway line through the city of Cincinnati Ohio. Before even half of it was completed, the entire project was abandoned, leaving an array of tunnels, platforms, and openings.
  • San Zhi
This city in Taiwan was abandoned when lack of funding stopped development.
  • Anderlecht Veterinary School
The terrifying complex was abandoned in the 90s, but several jars filled with the organs of their studies are scattered throughout the rooms. It is believed that renovations have not simply begun because no worker wants to go anywhere near it.
  • Canfrac International Railway Station
Once the largest station in Europe, the Canfranc International Railway Station has been abandoned for decades.

I want to go to all of these! *_*

EDIT: Except for the deadly ones with the radiation and the bacteria, duh! >_>

I wouldn't mind visiting some of these places myself. But I'm like you, I don't want to go to the places that have the radiation and bacteria.

Abandoned places are always creepier as your mind plays tricks on you. And, you might imagine there is some ghoul or zombie around the corner waiting to pounce. Horror movies play on this fear of abandoned places very well.

Nothing really to fear of an abandoned place as it's going to be more peaceful there.

In reality, if you were a brain eating zombie, wouldn't you go to a crowded city first? 😛

Would like to visit some of these places, they sound really great. 🙂

They said it would take Chernobyl 20,000 - 100,000 years to decontaminate. They aren't even really sure how long it will take. But things are getting worse there. I'd have to say its the worst one on the list.

Abandoned hospitals/psych wards are the worst. Most of them are from a time where "experimenting" on your patients was ok. Very creepy.
