A POPULAR computer game is “more addictive than cocaine”, experts have warned.

World of Warcraft has been described as “the most dangerous game on the market” in a report by addiction therapists at Sweden’s Youth Care Foundation.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you play the game? Would you say it's addictive? Do you think Blizzard Entertainment should play a more active part in moderating players' usage?

Discuss.

I personally haven't played it and it doesn't interest me but i know a few people who do play and have trouble not thinking about it when they are not playing it.

I dont think its £10 a month is it?

And i know plenty of people who play it and have no lives etc but i have never played it and never will.

Well, In the US it is 15 bucks a month..and this article is true. I have played this before, got addicted..It is really hard to quit. It took me a while. After a year I got bored of it though.

But, My cousin has been playing for 3 years and is really..really addicted. My family has tried to make him stop, but he just doesn't. He has lost 3 jobs because he has skipped work and played this game.

LOL, That's funny!

Unfortunately it's quite the opposite.

Companies like Blizzard Entertainment and JAGeX (the makers of "RuneScape") employ psychologists to code in addictive elements into these games, making people want to play them over and over on a regular basis.

Because of this, many vulnerable players (normally aged between 10-18) are taken away from what really matters in life, their education and social life. Click this link and see for yourself, pages and pages of concerned parents who have lost their children to this game.

It's becoming a serious problem. Yes, teenagers do have the right to spend their time how they wish (to a certain extent), but these companies aren't doing enough to moderate player's usage, they don't encourage regular breaks and if anything they build in more to keep players online rather than outside.

Disgraceful.

Thanks for clearing that for him MhW -😉-

This is BS.

They take an experience from 1 kid, and judge the whole game based on it. You can't blame the game. It's the kid. Every person is different.

I doubt the reporter even knows what WoW is...

From what I have heard/seen, Every person is not different. There are a few out there that do not play as much, but most people usually get addicted to it fast, or they just don't like it. I've had experiences, and people in my family has had experiences with this game.

Well I guess it's opinion then.

I played the game for nearly 8 months. Never got addicted to it at all.

I have also played RuneScape for about 3 years. It was fun during my time playing it, but I was also able to lay time off it whenever I needed to. I didn't find it more important than my real life stuff.

How much time did you spend on WoW a day?

Well, it depended on the other things I had planned for that day.

I spent anywhere from 1-4 hours playing the game daily. With breaks, of course.

Do you get addicted to games easily?

Is this some kind of diagnostic test or what? 😀

The questions you're asking me proves my point exactly.

People are different.

Well I can say I have never tried the game. However, if it's anything like the internet in general, I probably would enjoy playing it for awhile and might border line "addicted" until I got bored. I get bored easy, usually within a few days.

I can see it being 'like crack' for some people (which is why I prefer non-addictive weed anyway) but you must remember it's those people's faults. It is self control, and even though they say they are addicted and they cannot stop, there is no drug related reason why they cannot stop.

It's a game within a game, the game of self control. It can be applied to all video games, just because this one tops the chart doesn't make it worse than the others.

Bottom line imo:
It's a game of self control, the 'addicted' players need to learn how to quit, which will help them with bad habits later in life anyway.

Notice how hardly any of those links said Help my daughters addicted. -surprise-

Doesn't interest me and it never will. I know people who have/still play it and they are never off it. I remember reading a post on here saying someone threatend to kill themself if someone wouldn't do something for them on the game.
