oooh how I enjoyed schweppes lemonade before I found out it had Sodium benzoate

I know not alot of people would not know what sodium benzoate is and it seems like a very innocent name until you find out what it can actually do to your body.

I recently read from an online article:

"Sodium Benzoate chokes out your body's nutrients at the DNA cellular level by depriving mitochondria cells of oxygen, sometimes completely shutting them down. Just as humans need oxygen to breathe, cells need oxygen to function properly and to fight off infection, including cancer.

The FDA says it's safe because the amount used to preserve foods is very low, but don't ever combine it with vitamin C or E, as this causes benzene to be formed. This is dangerous. Benzene is a known carcinogen, which means it causes cancer.

Okay, so this should be easy. Never, ever mix vitamin C with pickles, peppers, salad dressings, jams, most condiments, vinegar, fruit juices, salsa, dips, shredded cheese, ketchup, or diet or regular soda. Don't forget about mouthwash, toothpaste, cough syrup, cream, lotion, and hundreds of cosmetic products.

So now why is it put in food? It's the cheapest mold inhibiter on the market, so it's all about the money. Acidic foods tend to grow bacteria, mold and yeast more easily than non-acidic foods, so the sodium benzoate extends the shelf life, while it shortens human life.

Cancer is all about the cumulative effect. When the human body is exposed repeatedly to any level of this carcinogen, which rears its ugly head in thousands of products, the immune system, over time, is depleted to the point that one acquires an immune deficiency. Then the body does not have enough essential nutrients to detoxify, and this occurs at the cellular level. Parkinson's, neuro-degenerative diseases, and premature aging have all been attributed to this infamous preservative."

hope this opened some eyes! who agrees that it is safe to put this in the drinks and food that we buy? eat well guys and gals!

This is bad, along with Genetically modified foods etc. Im gonna grow my own food from now on.

This is just a huge outcry,

organic is the best way to go, even goto vegan specialty stores, they have alot of food good for the body!

Guys if you still want something a bit sweet my recipe is to mix lemon + water (cut the sugar) use a Stevia supplement known to not have any bad health effects but a strong aftertaste, it's 300 times sweeter than sugar though initially. Also the aftertaste is known to be similar to licorice (great for licorice fans)

those who don't like the after-taste can counter it by mixing in Truvia (supplement that has stevia and xylitol) kicks out the aftertaste and is for diabetic people but recommend doing some research for yourself, I'm so glad I came across it! so GET LOST schweppes!

I mainly drink rootbeer now anyways, guess I'll still have to find other lemonade's now. 🙁

yeah I was drinking schweppes for like a good few years untill this year when I found out what happened with this article.

I wonder how many people will stop drinking Schweppes. :O

Actually this kind of article make me laugh and I bet it's as useless as saying how bad junk food is for your body.

Nowadays, what i find outrageaous is that these thousands of scientist who spend their time of those tests while some deseases are still rocking the world. FOR ANY SINGLE TEST DONE, what people don't get is that it's in case you over use it, as for Schweppes, indeed if you drink 3/4 liters per day it can be dangerous, well, anyone drinking 3/4 liters of soda a day is a fool but it can be the same with wine, bbq, chocolate and a unlimited list of daily goods that we use.

Instead of paying thousands to people to make those test, they should spend it on fighting the poverty, the proper deseases etc etc.

You realize that there are scientists devoted to creating a cure for those diseases and that it can't be done very fast, so you may as well use up some of your time in order to test things that they want to experiment with, and scientists don't come in with the problem of poverty really and poverty is going to be one of the toughest things to tackle, you just have to wait and deal with it.

It's not the point, the point is, every single thing that we use daily, if we over use/eat/drink it, it can be leathal, a cure? There is no cure.

Scientist have discovered that eating too much BBQ can kill you? what kind of cure will you create for that? A BBQ is a BBQ change something in it and it's not a BBQ and that's the same with everything.

The number of countries where everything is ok and don't have to bother for the future (yet) can be counted in one hand, do every other country have better to do just let people know that schweppes can be bad for your health? We will all die, you and only you in most of the time are the only one who can decide how you will die.

My father died when I was 8, too much drinking, he's been told a year before, to cool down on drinks or he could pass away, did he stopped? no.

I drink too, though, only a couple of red wine glasses a week, I am not gonna die for that will I?

I agree with dreadlord's point, where are scientists out there dedicating themselves to the enrichment of everyone's lives, there are also business owners school children, churches, charities, all working together to counter poverty and to help people lead sustainable independent lives, there are programs and services established to help people with this type of situation. don't you really see the big picture there coolframe?

It's not a waste of time when someone that is harmful to your body EVERY TIME you drink it, as you age, that will catch up with you, then what? the cure, there is a cure, it's knowledge.
