We are all criminals

HAHA Dan you aren't effected your in the UK.
You're misinformed then. The UK is as bad if not worse than the US. It's common for old ladies to be extorted by lawyers saying they downloaded gay porn that they didn't pay for. True story.

Also lol @ all the paranoia here.

Well I don't know the status on the case currently but I know if they do get away with it and put him in jail there will be riots.
No because most Americans are corporatist, nationalistic sheeple who can't formulate their own thoughts.
I fixed your post.

I love the way corporations write the laws in our country.

This is pretty silly.

As its been pointed out already if the government where to seriously "crack down" so to speak the the jails would be completely over run with millions of people lol.

Imagine how beautiful the world would be if the police spent their time searching for real criminals instead of copyright violators and marijuana users.

Why aren't copyright violators criminals? Would you like someone else benefiting from your work, and you receiving almost nothing in comparison to them? It could be your idea which transforms a business and that gets accredited to someone else and you receive no recognition. Would you like that to happen?

Of course there are different levels of copyright violations, but there are many people who steal other's works and ideas and benefits from them which any hard working person would not want happen to them.

I'm going to laugh when they start arresting people for looking at so called "illegal" things online. The prisons will be full.

I do love living in Australia, such a vast landscape and many places to live, because i know when the world turns to shit where i am going.

Well I just found out that the guy was selling the links to sites, that's why he was arrested. Which now it makes sense.

Yeah they wouldn't have a jail big enough to house everyone. This is utterly ridiculous. What are they going to do if Barack Obama decides to send someone a link? Are they going to arrest him? Probably not!

Lone Wolf, read my previous post, he was selling the links. And that is illegal.

Yeah just read it, sorry. Well it makes sense now I suppose. I wonder how much they made from selling the links.

I misspoke. I meant people who commit low-level violations such as the one to which this post alludes. Even torrenting is fine in my opinion from a purely moral standpoint.

There's a difference between a copyright violator and piracy peddlers. When you say copyright infringement you don't mean someone who took your idea though. That alone can't be copyrighted, reason why you can have a video game cloning another game and as long as none of the characters, levels, etc are copied it's perfectly legal.

In any case, I believe copyright should simply expire earlier (say 10 years or so) than the ridiculous ever lasting copyright we are phasing in.

Copyrights currently last seventy-five years unless I'm mistaken. That's way too long. Ten years would be very reasonable in my opinion. Try finding a game from more than ten years ago on store shelves. Illegal downloads are the only way to get some old games.

Interestingly enough, the first copyright law originated in England, and it was actually created to stop people from creating too much. The invention of the printing press was a threat to the British government because people could print seditious texts on a previously unfathomable scale, so the British government created copyright laws as a way to slow innovation.

If you are referring to him going to jail for spreading links, then yes it is possible like I previously stated, he was selling the links.
