Who would you recommend as a web host? I'd prefer a host offering free and paid plans but just a free host would be fine.

I would recommend www.webhostingfox.com you can request a custom paid plan if you want too.

I'd recommend Post 2 Host or paid. Free only usually give low amounts of space and bandwidth for your site. It's always good to have more! 🙂

You can try http://www.hostjiffy.com we host around 7 sites right now and are moving up. We have a mixture of p2h free and paid you could say.. You can buy points if you just want a paid service. Free if you make one post you get the 1 post per life plan. Then we have the p2h where you can pick from a ton of plans.
