I believe it was yesterday when http://webhostingfox.com decided to go offline. They left a message on the homepage to email either [email protected] or [email protected] for a backup. If you were hosted by WHF, have you sent then an email yet asking for a backup? And if you have, how long did it take for you to get the backup?

I'm being really anxious about this because I've uploaded a lot of images onto my website that's hosted by them, and all of those images won't show up now considering that the host is down.

Yes,they had lots if downtime in the past

What do you expect if it's a free host?
They have 1 free package, a couple of post to host but I thought they earned enough from their paid hosting to be able to afford big servers.

How can you earn enough from P2H to purchase a reliable server?

Adverts? Thats how your planning to cover all the fee's on marketswag right? 🙂

Yeah, thing is I don't know much about the traffic of the website, Alexa says it's 3M+, they won't be making more than $90/mo from ads in all honesty. MS is under 400k and we're making around mid-high $xxx/mo.

WHF used to be a good webhost even for the free plans although it moved servers and started going down all the time and its been downhill ever since then. Also at this time hosts seem to be going down at this time alot.

It was both. Mostly free and p2h though. But still ive seen alot of paid hosts go down latley

I had a special package where I only had to pay a few dollars a month for just hosting. It was a really great offer. But now, after they decided to shut down, they still haven't even sent me my backup for my website. If they don't get it sent at least today, then I will most likely report them for fraud. This is ridiculous that they decided to just randomly shut down their hosting without telling anyone about it, and then they don't even send backups to their users.

You should always have backups yourself and not rely on your host making backups. That way, if anything like this happens, you can immediately move your site to a new host with minimal loss.

Actually I made a backup about a couple of weeks ago, but there has been many new posts made within that time, especially guidelines that took a few hours to type. It states on their homepage to email either one of the two administrators, and I emailed both of them just the other night. No one has replied. Also, the owner of the website was on AIM just yesterday, and I messaged him several of times, but it seemed that he just ignored me.

You get what you pay for with hosting, you are better off going with a well known host such as hawkhost. The packages are not too expensive, they are affordable and reliable.

We posted an announcement on June 28th saying in 4 days we would take down the servers. We were open for a 2-3 years and overall we only got 2-4 paid customers.

Maybe, We may open another hosting, or restart WHF (but that would be on DeathSouls (forum name) choice and not mine) but if it does it would most likely be just paid. Free hosting doesn't have any income for us unless we put ads onto hosted websites but no one would like that and neither would I.

Well, that would be nice. But I'm really interested in receiving a backup for my forum so that I could switch to a different host. Are you someone that has access to backups?
