With many of them opening up now-a-days, what amkes you join them? Do you only join certain ones? If so, why is this? What makes you join some, and not others?

Does a blog with useful articles attract you to some forums?

I'm interested to see why some people join webmaster/admin forums with 1,000 posts but not some with 5,000+ posts.

Its all about how unique there services are. Though it can be tricky to come up with some. Yeah, a blog with some useful article may make me want to join more as I can learn from the articles.

I participate at two, this being one and the other being one that I remembered from 2004, nostalgia I guess.

I have also signed up to one more when running a contest on my site, to get the word out.

To be honest I laugh sometimes to myself when I see ten new admin forums opening up and advertising here.

Well, as the users above said or stated... but yeah, it also depends on its design and theme.

I used to join many advertising forums to get the word of my site out there. When I saw it didn't really bring difference no matter what I did, I stopped searching for advertising forums and just truly stayed at places which I think I like the most. That left me with two advertising forums I am regular at now, one is Forum Promotion.

If I built another forum and wanted to find an advertising forum to use, my main concern is the community. First impression from appearance sure is important as it invites me to check the forum around a bit more, but eventually the community decides on it. Activity rate, number of members, kind of discussions, uniqueness, and so on.

This is subjective I believe, but I feel more... interested in joining smaller forums actually. A forum too large makes you feel like you don't know anyone around and it's hard to blend in. Small forums, especially with many active members, are way more inviting to me.

I don't really like blogs, to be honest; I don't read articles there if there is a site having such option. I just go straight to the forum. XD

Interesting to hear your thoughts everyone. I agree with you phio, I love joining smaller forums as you can meet new members that join, rather than joining a big forum and having to blend in with the members already registered.

Personally, it takes a lot for me to join a forum in the first place. I need to see some stable activity out of it, as well as a good number of discussions for me to reply to. Also, I really need to like the forum team and userbase. I know that some people go around and 'help out smaller forums', but I'm past that point in trusting webmasters. I know if I go and post 300 posts on a forum, and then come back a week later it might just be gone. Therefore, I pick and choose the forums(especially 'boom' forums like an admin forum) I join very carefully 😉

+1 to this. I like to just watch forums as a guest for a little while to look for good consistent activity before joining. Obviously if a forum has over about 25000 posts there is no need to do this.

I recently bought a webmaster forum, that is fairly new. I bought it because I thought the design of the site, the number of useful articles and the various competitions make it slightly more unique than some of the other webmaster forums. I honestly believe that admingab.com will become a success and I have just invested a significant amount of money into SEO for the site.

We also just reached 1000 posts and the forum has only been open for around 4 weeks which I think is pretty good going.

I think what most want to see is stability. Forums, particularly in the webmaster and Admin Niche open and close overnight and that is very offputting to people who want to join those types of forums.

There is always a new crowd to haul in that has no clue about the current fad about these types of forums, those are the ones that come in via search engines 🙂

I don't really participate in any of the new forums. I'm a fan of quality content, and I'm a fan of interacting with people that have a lot of sense. The mass amount of "admin forums" is just cluttering the niche. What's the difference between all of them? Nothin, really, same topics, but with different words. I do, however, support certain admin forums.

I just don't get it when people create forums called "webmaster forums" a long with "admin forums", they're both the same thing and talk about the same type of topics. Most of these forums won't last long because its tough work to run an admin forum. I guess some people love the excitement behind running an admin forum.

They can work with dedication and you must be willing to put a lot of work into the admin forum. I guess a lot of people think if they open an admin or webmaster forum, it will last longer than the others, which doesn't seem the case for most.

But what about a blog a long with the forum? Do people prefer quality forum articles, forum tutorials or a mixture of both?

Personally, I prefer quality content, whether its within forum articles, forum tutorials, or both. It's great for an admin forum to have that type of content because it attracts new members, and keeps members coming back. Without any quality articles, an admin forum is really tough to run because you can't really brand it for being a quality admin forum when there isn't any quality content like that. How do you think TheAdminZone became so popular? It was one of the first admin forums to come in and attack the market hard with reviews, articles, and interviews on major people in the industry. :great:
