Webportal - Neater Layout And A Name

Hey there. If you have read it recently, I made a post showing a small prototype I did for a Webportal. Surprisingly enough, I'm still working on it and the progress is coming along well.

So to start with, I decided to work on an entirely brand new look for it. When I looked at the old versions of Yahoo! and MSN, I got hit with a lot of inspiration for a new Layout.

Here's a picture of what I've came up with so far for this new layout:

Of course, I haven't added any other content just yet as I'm still working and experimenting on this new layout.

Here is what the site looked like before:

This version of the site, looks dull, bland and empty.

The difference between both the new Layout and old Layout is that:

1. There is 2 docks instead of one(1 at the top underneath the Name and 1 at the side. The top is called the General-Stuff-Dock or GSD for short. The side is called Extra-Stuff-Dock or ESD for short).
2. The searchbox(If I even include one) will be located further down the page instead of the very top.
3. The new Layout will also introduce more displays and information(I just haven't started working on these parts yet). When I say 'More Displays and Information', I really just mean more boxes that will show things like News, Highlighted Videos and Images etc.
4. And there's also a cool looking background instead of a dull gradient.

You may have also noticed in the picture for the New Layout, is a name for this Webportal. I decided to name it Search-Compass. I decided to name it this because, when you're navigating the Web, think of it as you're essentially being navigated around by compass. I might of course, change it before I actually launch the site(That is, if I even finish it).

I've also added a Forum to the site. This Forum is usually for Users to chat about what they see on the homepage of the Webportal and so they can read more info about updates coming to the Portal. The Forum is powered by Nabble and so far, I like it.
