My family just managed to fix a computer which we had used a few years ago, but have spoilt and we have abandoned it. We found it today and managed to fixed it. However, there are some weird lines displaying on my screen. I tried downloading the graphics accelerator for windows XP and it was download and installed. I restarted my computer as instructed, but the lines are still there.

see them here - http://img15.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=img2285v.jpg

Help wanted.
Thanks~!

is it a laptop or desktop computer, if its a desktop you can try changing the monitor

Is the line always there? When you turn on your monitor with Windows off, it should have some sort of screen. If the line is still there, the monitor is messed up. If it isn't, there is an error with your graphics card.

Its a laptop. I restarted it and the lines still stays.

If can, turn it off and take out your graphics card. Try putting it back in and restarting.

If not, or if it doesn't work, uninstall the graphics driver you have on there now and download the latest version.

Take out the graphics card? What and how? I have no idea.

It's pretty hard on a laptop. Don't worry about that. Just try deleting and then downloading your driver.

It actually looks like the screen is broken. You must have hit, smacked, bumped, smashed, dropped or sat on your laptop.

Yes i think i have 😛

Ok, so how exactly do i reinstall my driver?

I would say this is either a graphics card problem (and I don't think a driver update will help, it's just that your card is dieing), or else it's a problem with the LCD screen which has some pixels stuck.
In this case of entire lines of pixels stuck, I don't think jscreenfix will help much as it's an hardware contact problem. But you can try any of the solutions posted above anyways.

Yea your monitor is broken it would be best to get a new one if you want to remove the lines.

I can think of two things to do;

1. It may be a loose connection at the panel you might get lucky and be able to fix it by wedging something in on top of the ribbon that connects the driver
to the panel but generally it's difficult to repair these things.

2. Try flipping the computers resolution setting to see if the line moves.
If it does, you probably have a dead row in the video RAM. This is impossible to fix.

The lines move. only when i turn on the computer, the lines appear.

will try out the methods you all provided later on. thank you all so much.
