Weird "Most users ever online"

Most users ever online was 74 on 30 Jul 2010, 05:04

Can someone explain this? The site is new, usually 0-2 users online daily (we also had some better days 😛 ).

Is it bot-traffic or some kind of bug?

But it was like for 1 sec, I had no chance to see so many people online. I think it happened so fast ...

What do you mean bug? Did you tweet your forums link? It could be that it was tweeted to a lot of followers.

It was no doubt a spike in hits from bots. Look at our most users online record:

Most users ever online was 567 on 08 Oct 2008, 12:38

Most of them were guests.

I'd agree with Fergal. Sorry to say it, but I'd bet they were mostly bots.

You mean Fowler 😉 Also I had the same thing happen, it's just a massive load of bots visiting at once.

I don't use twitter. I still can't get what's the Twitter's point... I have an account there, but i have no idea how to use it. Doesn't look useful for me.

get a lot of people following you on twitter then when you will post a tweet regarding your site all your followers will get message about it. and some of them will visit it.

and the 1 sec. thing ensures it was a bot attack 😛
