i was using my computer, and than all of a sudden my screen went blue and had writing on it. i couldn't read what it said, it immediately shut off and restarted.

now it's fine.

i wonder what happened

Sounds like a Blue Screen of Death. If Windows has a problem it shuts down and displays a blue screen with the error.

Hehe. What's weird is instant recognition of the BSoD is dying. I almost want to grab a BSoD wallpaper to reminisce.

Yeah, sounds definitely like the "Blue Screen of Death". I think you should make a backup of everything just to be sure. You are having a few hardware issues.

Most likely a physical memory dump, seems to be the most common.

Uh Oh. I once had this on my Laptop. Later in the week it wouldn't turn on at all and the laptop had to go in to the shop to get fixed for a few days.

Lets hope that hasn't happened to you.

Ooops. Just make sure you get a backup incase anything sever happens.

Oh i love BSoDs.
It means you have failing hardware or software, it could be a simple problem as easy as dust clogging your fan, resulting in your HDD overheating and failing.
Take your tower/laptop apart carefull, avoid touching the RAM sticks and clean the components 🙂

Dang. I have had that happen before, but not for sometime. Just make sure you keep everything backed-up, just in case that happens again.

it only happened once. i believe everything on my computer backed up.

it's been one week and nothing has happened, could something still go wrong though?

Back Up. Back Up. Back Up. Until you find the exact cause of the problem, and fix it, treat every piece of data as if it could be lost. Therefore backup 🙂

Now is the time of would should be done. Later you will look at this time as the time of hope 😛 Backup. Research 🙂

Something could always go wrong, but like sonicjesusfreak said, if it's only happened once then you probably don't have to worry.
