Well, it passed

@Hishikawa13: I'm not saying that Money > life, I'm saying that money is life. This money goes into medical research which saves many, many lives. It's funny you mention mysterious sicknesses, because mysterious illnesses kill because of low profit margins. I am saying that if we spend too much we will all be in trouble. It is painfully obvious that insurance companies cannot afford this, because they would not have dropped these patients otherwise. They are for-profit, so their meansly 2-3% profit margin is needed to maintain their operations.

And the insurance industry has one of the lowest profit margins in the health industry. Here are some numberzzz.

Amgen (biotechnology): Profit margin, 30.6 percent
Gilead Sciences (biotechnology): 37.6 percent
Celgene Corp. (biotechnology): 11.9 percent
Johnson & Johnson (drug manufacturer): 20.8 percent
Pfizer (drug manufacturer): 16.3 percent
GlaxoSmithKline (drug manufacturer): 17.4 percent
Unitedhealth Group (healthcare plans): 4.1 percent
WellPoint (healthcare plans): 4 percent
Aetna (healthcare plans): 3.9 percent
MedcoHealth Solutions (healthcare services): 2.1 percent
Express Scripts (healthcare services): 3.7 percent
Quest Diagnostics (healthcare services): 8.7 percent
Medtronic (medical equipment): 14.9 percent
Baxter International (medical equipment): 17.5 percent
Covidien (medical equipment): 12.3 percent

By the way, I re-read the source and it says that the median was 2%, so 3% was just one instance.

If you actually want quality healthcare you actually have to pay for it. Otherwise, health care will be low quality. There is no free healthcare.

and lose money? lol? I'd rather leave the business and get a job at home depot than run a charity operation which loses money.

And my point with the Jeremiah Wright quote is that the government should be scrutinized, not blindly trusted.

So let's get back to this... apparently a federal judge striked down the part in the Health Care plan that gives penalties if you do not buy insurance..

What do you guys think of that? Do you think that part of the health care plan is necessary?

Just saying, MA Health Care seems to be in pretty damn good shape.
What in Massachusetts isn't in pretty damn good shape?

Well said. On a similar note, happy inauguration day. 4 more for Deval and SuperTim (calling him super Tim due to the fact he pulled children out of a burning van with his bare hands this past week)

If they wanted to pass Healthcare, that is fine, so long as Abortion is taken out of it. But they should NOT force anyone to take it if they don't want to.

They can't force anybody, but you do get fined if you don't have healthcare. This will likely be brought to the supreme court and ruled as unconstitutional.

I can see the legal argument with that but how come Massachusetts is allowed to do that in their healthcare policies but the federal government can't? Sure we can argue that the constitution doesn't give the federal government responsibility of that, but where in the constitution does it say the federal government can employ law enforcement agencies, or have a space program?

I heard an interesting argument by some conservative who was on TV last night, he was saying he, like Mitt Romney, supports fining if you don't get healthcare because it would generate more free market competition between the insurance companies. I really don't know how well that argument stands up, but just seemed interesting instead of the same old stuff.

"Why are we spending time and money on this? We need to get jobs back first."

For people to work they need to be healthy for people to be healthy they need to see doctors etc. For people to see doctors they need alot of money... people with no jobs need money to become healthy to get another job... They need to do both. Jobs and Health care. Health care helps they get healthy to get the job that we need to make.
