Well I dont know what kind of forums to make..Im most interested into website building..like making websites...and I want to make a forums...but, dont know what to use..
Should I use these:
SMF
vBulletin (My parents said they will pay for my owned liencse)
PhpBB
MyBB
IP.Board (Same with vBulletin)
I have both vBulletin and IPB. I'll say that I used to like vBulletin a lot more than IPB, but I've changed my mind. IPB 3.0 (the newest version) is a great product. There aren't too many skins/themes out for it, but don't let that turn you off-- the product is extremely flexible and customizable.
I would definitely get a hold of an IPB license. People also say that IPB is the more "professional" software. While I wouldn't necessarily agree with that myself, it does seem more appropriate for a website that is based around website building/coding.
I like PhpBB but if you can get a IP.Board or vBulletin choice of those 2. If your getting a vBulletin wait until 4.0 comes out because if every vBulletin owner have to pay for it no mater what so you save money by waiting.
First off. Yes I am a vB nut.. That is besides the point. Anyone that is into vB Buzz would know that vB 4 is due out soon. This means a higher price and and outlay that really no one has a clue about. I hve always loved vB and found it the best program to go paid for if you have never really used a forum software before. Everything is just so easy to set up. I do warn though.. apparently vB4 will be a new price and even if you bought vB 3.X two days before.. You will still have to pay full amounts to get new versions.
Also a note.. for some unknown reason MyBB seemed to die in the "you know what" over their last few releases. I alsmost wouldn't consider them very vBulletin like too much anymore (although its still more vB than any other software)
So.. Yes, wait for it.. If you have the money and want a 100% professional forum then go for IPB. But when I say Professional I mean that most sites that Run IPB aren't massive "Fun to be with Communities" most IPB forums are for big corporations who need a forum for their clients to advertise more on the web.
I still say vB though.. Even if the new one comes out tomorrow. I bought my vB lic after hearing the news anyway 😛..
If you MUST go for free, I would suggest phpBB3 although the mods can be a bit intense to nistall if you don't know what you are doing.
