So I have a forum with an automated blog and such. I'm currently doing a giveaway, too (If you haven't entered yet, you can enter at http://gamerturd.com/giveaway) and I'm trying to drive traffic to my site. Am I doing something wrong? I have no users other than test accounts and the Google Bot and I'm really not sure what to do. Can anyone show me some tips on what to do? Am I just being impatient? I really don't know what it is.

The giveaway is a good start.

I would try using some form of social media. You can use Twitter or Facebook to advertise your giveaway. Or you can use social media to make updates about your community, so that people who may be searching for things that are similar in nature might be drawn to your site.

Also, you might try exchanging affiliates with other places, especially places that have something in common with your community.

Have you tried doing exchanges just to start up any pre content?

Thank you for the reply! Yes, my social media usage is through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, although I probably don't update them as much as I should. I just don't have the time to update them all day but I will see if I can squeeze some free time to post a few more things.

I'm about to do that with Dreamcloud Gaming as soon as I get home but I'll see if I can exchange with more, thanks for the tip! Every little thing helps.

Starting up any type of website is hard, if you start building up your forum, it would help get users browsing around your website more, and possibly entering into the giveaway.

Have you tried doing some SEO work? You can drive a lot of organic traffic in if SEO is done properly.

I think this will be my next step, because the only thing I've done as far as SEO is connect al my attachments to Amazon CDN to help it load faster although I don't know if that counts as SEO work. I'm considering also getting some work done from SEO Clerks and seeing how that would work out. Thanks for the tips!

Join gaming communities on Facebook and read their rules. If they don't have rules about advertising, then participate in discussions and share you link on multiple pages. Use hashtags on Twitter, if you have a Twitter account.

The design is different, though the design itself doesn't represent gaming at all which can prove to be a bit put-offish for people.

Forums as a whole are less popular than they once were. Even websites that were once "giants" of the internet are suffering (FP included). Unfortunately, people have been turning to social media and fancy apps for years now and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

When it comes to creating a successful website or forum, patience is key. You can have the greatest design, fastest loading times and the perfect non-competitive niche, but without patience you won't make it.

Make sure you are promoting as much as possible to IRL friends/etc. Having as little as 5 users can still lead to an active community if those 5 people are posting each day and speaking with each other. If you can, try to convince any friends you have online/offline to join up and post each day to really spark the community. If they're your true friends they should be willing to help.

Add your URL to Google, Baidu, Yahoo, Ask, Bing and more. It would get bots more often on your forum and get you higher and faster in search engines. SEO is also very important.

If you need help with SEO, PM me for my personal Skype. My prices reflect the years I've spent helping clients with SEO, writing, web design/development, advertising/marketing, and other projects. I know what I'm doing and I won't work for pennies, but a few FP members have said my prices are "affordable" and "worth every dollar." My minimum is usually $100 for new clients, but I can make an exception here on FP. If you're willing to spend at least $50, you should definitely get in touch!

Anyways, feel free to contact me on Skype. Even if you don't use my services, I'm more than willing to help point you in the right direction (to another SEO firm or freelancer).

if you want to do SEO by yourself then open the webmaster tools of Google and Bing, register yourself in google my business and always update yourself through your blog and articles. Don't forget to link everything like a connected graph it would help you to promote your page

If you haven't tried it yet, I would recommend reaching out to family and friends and asking them to post a little bit on your forum. Doing this will definitely help with content but you must also actively post new content of your own. Practicing this and implementing others' suggestions in this thread will definitely help. Don't give up, getting started is difficult but this kind of work never ends you just have to keep trying to maintain activity in your forum, don't let it die.

The giveaway is a great start! Don't give up no matter what! Keep up promoting and work on your SEO!
