Hey, well I opened up my new forum, and ever since it opened, I've had to buy posts after posts and so far it seems no one is interested in my forum even though I have a lot to offer in the future. I try my best to just get things done but it seems as if no one is bothered?
Can anyone help me and tell me what I could add to my forum to make it better?
Width: I know, many a time has my forum width been an issue, I'll look into and if need be get rid of the sidebars, although if you have an idea on what to do with the info in the sidebars, please do so.
*Edit: I've also tried to hire a moderator for the forum, truth is; I don't think I really need one but so far I have had a grand total of 1 person apply, some please help me with this...
What puts me off is the basic layout and the default phpBB style. Get a good template made (or look for a pre-made one) and change the phpBB style to integrate with it. Just now you have a basic header/footer and navigation, make these better looking and you could attract more members.
Change the website itself, it's to basic and only has 2/3 colors. Make it more unique to your website and change the style of the forum itself, the blue colors etc is what i'm meaning.
maybe make a style to fit into your site, so it will be seamless from the site to the forum, and make it full width or at least 70% ish

-- 15 Mar 2011, 23:03 --

maybe make a style to fit into your site, so it will be seamless from the site to the forum, and make it full width or at least 70% ish
If someone has the answer, they'd be a millionaire. There is just no one reason; maybe people just don't want to post on your forum, for no real reason. Not every forum will succeed, and that's reality.
I think when you closed your previous forum and opened a new one, you more or less blocked those people; it sends a message out to those who were actively posting.
On a personal level, I just don't see a reason to join your forum, and that will be the case to many people as well. One question I like to as is: where have you advertised your forum? You should note that your forum is attached to a design website and a portfolio, so you need to be advertising your services before advertising your forum. The forum should be a subsidiary of your design service, and not be your main focus. If more people are using your service, maybe using freebies that you could give out, people will have some purpose in joining as they may see benefits of joining.
Also, any reason why the community discussion boards can't be under general discussion? Anyhow, I just don't see the reason to join, I have no idea what the site is about. I usually join forums I see here if they are either active or unique, judging by your current issues I'd work on the latter.
